An atlas of the world's hot springs.
SoakNation is a directory of natural geothermal springs, commercial onsen, sento, and thermal baths around the world. It is meant to be a quiet, careful field guide — the kind you'd want to consult before driving up a forest road or booking a ryokan.
What's in here
Every entry has coordinates, region, and access notes drawn from OpenStreetMap. Where the place is also a documented commercial establishment, we add ratings, reviews, photos, hours, and amenity tags from public sources. Together that's 5,000+ entries across four countries at present, growing as additional country scrapes complete.
How we source it
- Geographic coordinates and OSM tags from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL license)
- Reverse-geocoding via Nominatim to attach region/county/town
- Drive times calculated against real road networks via OSRM
- Photos, ratings, hours, and reviews aggregated from public listings
- Editorial curation of best-photo and best-review selection per place
What we don't do
- We don't own or operate any of the listed springs. Always verify hours, access, and conditions with the operator before traveling.
- We don't sell tickets. Reservations and bookings happen via the operator's site or your preferred travel partner.
- We don't track your routes or save your map interactions.
