Arctic Duchess Adventures

My brother and sister in law are hosting our first visit to Yellowknife and had heard (from Cabin Radio) that the Arctic Duchess and the plunge was a worthwhile activity. Having completed it we would say a hearty - Yes. Invigorating! The staff were friendly and helpful. Despite having signed an extensive waiver and been given clear direction we didn’t feel rushed at all. The sauna was lovely. While the relaxation tent was comfortably appointed it was a bit cool. The staff remedied that quickly. Recommend water shoes (it’s painful on the feet) and your own robe (you’ll be warmer and more comfortable in the relaxation tent). Note that locals did mention that earlier in the day is a quieter experience.

Arctic Duchess (and Jake) offers an unforgettable experience of relaxation and adventure in a truly unique setting. Having visited multiple times, I can confidently say it’s a must-try for both tourists and locals. The combination of the saunas, relaxation tents, cold plunge and breathtaking aurora views is unparalleled. The setup is thoughtfully designed, making for an incredible and relaxing (and adventurous) escape. Take the plunge and visit because it’s truly amazing for solo visitors, friends, a loved one, a big group, etc. I can’t rave enough about this place - a real gem in Yellowknife.

A big rave to Arctic Duchess Adventures. It really felt like a holiday. Loved the hot coffee and biscuits in the warning tent. That was a nice touch. The sauna and cold plunge relaxed all my muscle knots. There is a beautiful view out of the sauna so you can watch people skiing on the frozen lake from the warm comforts of the sauna. Go for a night session and see the northern lights. I felt like I was floating the rest of the day. The folks running the sauna and cold plunge were so warm and friendly. Highly recommend for both residents and visitors!

What a unique local experience! Where else can you say you went into the Great Slave Lake in the middle of winter while it was -25 out. Rustic, but lovely set up. Three nicely sized barrel saunas you can hop into to warm up - it never felt crowded and I sometimes had a sauna to myself. The warming/relaxation tent was cozy with some hot drinks, light snacks, and interesting reads. Overall, must try experience if you’re visiting Yellowknife in season.

Amazingly unique experience! Whether you sauna cold dip often or are new to it, this is an experience not to miss while in Yellowknife! The whole area is on the frozen lake (Great Slave Lake). There are 3 big saunas, an open cold dip, change tents, and a relaxation tent with coffee, tea and cookies. Slip on shoes and a towel is included. Splurge for the robe! The stars above are magical.
