This special care home is run by wolves in sheep’s clothing. The building is nice, it’s well maintained and the layout is good. The entryway and outside is decorated for every occasion which makes it appear to be a cheerful place. On the surface things seem great. Don’t be fooled! Many staff are inexperienced. Residents are ignored and receive bare minimum interaction and care from staff. Cleanliness in resident rooms is a huge problem. The residents look so sad and lonely, it’s heartbreaking. They’ve had an ongoing problem with staff standing/sitting around with their heads buried in their smart phones. I was told they’ve had many staff meetings about it but I have yet to see any improvement. The General Manager and Director of Care are good at giving lip service but if an issue arises you need to go in person to find them to discuss it as they simply do not return phone calls or emails concerning any type of complaint. I urge you, if you are thinking on placing a loved one here to do your homework! Some residents are happy living here and with the services but there are many more who are far from happy. Residents who are in relatively good health and can report back to their family seem to receive pretty good care. Those who don’t see family often and can’t report back are the ones who don’t seem to get the care they should. There are also problems with theft. Residents wallets and money have been stolen, their drawers have been gone through when not in their room, an heirloom quilt that had been in a family for years mysteriously disappeared, etc. Dig around the internet and social media. You will see non compliance infractions due to employee files not having proper documentation of current qualifications and not having valid cpr and first aid certifications amongst other violations. If you do visit Monday-Friday during the day or at a time that’s been pre-arranged, go again when staff wouldn’t be expecting you. Go on a weekend and you will see a much different atmosphere. Take a walk around on the first floor, then the second. Have a little chat with the residents themselves. They tend to gather on each floor in a sitting area and hardly any staff will be around. They love having someone to talk to. Ask them how they like living there. I guarantee you will be able to have nice lengthy conversations and will get an eye opener. Watch what staff are doing. Last week I saw 3 staff gathered in an office laughing and looking at their smart phones during the full 45 minutes I was there visiting. I asked another employee if they were on a break. I was told they were not. Yesterday I was there for 2 hours, for over 1 hour, a female staff stood leaning against the wall using her smart phone the entire time. My review just scratches the surface. Again, I urge you to do your homework if contemplating Auberge du Soleil for your loved one or yourself. Don’t be fooled by how nice the place looks or how friendly the staff seem. Sometimes things aren’t as they seem and that is truly the case with this establishment.
