Balance In Life Spa

Edit to add: management has reached out and has been phenomenal to deal with. I was offered a free 75 minute massage as a redo!! So looking forward to this!! Thank you. So disappointed in my massage yesterday. My mom booked us hour massages to unwind. As a mom myself and business owner it’s rare I get a chance to relax, after waiting weeks for this I was so excited. My masseuse was late, came in talking to staff about almost tripping after the elevator (after my mom was taken in with her lady) she then walked around for a couple minutes, went to her room etc. finally came over to me and said “where’s your friend?”… I said she’s in already, she was called before you got here. We go in the room she’s trying to tell me about her elevator not being level etc, I just didn’t really want to chit chat I was ready to relax and worried about us already being late. We got into the room at 4:52 - massage starts shortly after after no talk about what I wanted, history etc. it wasn’t a big deal because I just wanted to get started and a full body relaxation was all I was after. The lady never massaged the back of my arms at all, while I was on my stomach, just up and down the back. The legs were the same thing, applying product rubbing it but not massaging. Felt like she really didn’t want to be there. It wasn’t a matter of pressure not being hard or soft enough she was literally not massaging.. I turn over and again rubs the lower legs a bit, not much effort, never applies product ankle down, no rubbing of feet etc, no hot towels on the feet or towel behind the head etc (my mom did though and said her lady was awesome! I was jealous hearing her experience!) I’ve had about 15-20 massages around the world and this was by far the worst. My expectations were not high, just to be relaxed, have my body massaged fully and be physically in the room for an hour. To top it off when she was “massaging” my hands which was actually weirdly lightly caressing each knuckle, she sat on the side of my bed while I could hear her cracking her ankle/feet. I was so close to just asking for it be over, but it was just awkward. We stopped at 5:43, I went out and my mom still wasn’t out even though she went in well before me. Really disappointed with the whole experience. Was told I’d receive a courtesy call today by management too, but that didn’t happen. I never got my girls name as there was no introduction, but if I did I would share so she could be avoided for such an unprofessional massage. Had to fight to get a discount for my mom who was treating me - was offered 20% off but after explaining over and over how bad it was and said I would like to pay no more than a half hour they did finally agree after calling the owner. My masseuse did apologize for sitting on the bed while rubbing me and cracking her feet/ankle whatever it was I was hearing. She also explained in front of everybody that she had to cut me short because after being late and assuming we were getting massaged at the same time (but she was late?) the room was needed on time for the next client and if she gave me a full hour the next client would be upset with a shorter time… sorry what??
Inconsistent. Walked in with a headache, walked out with a migraine and matted hair from a very unpleasant head massage and agitated growing knots after the body massage. My husband and I had separate appointments, he also did not enjoy his time either. We don’t recommend the relaxation massage (non-RMTs). My relatives had good experiences with their RMTs. Edit: Thank you Balance In Life Spa for replying. Changing it to one star for the following details. My husband did not appreciate being lathered up in oil (he used a more inappropriate description) and was not asked about preferences of pressure. He said the pressure was non-existent where he chose to sleep through the appointment agitated. A minor thing I didn’t realize there were different oil scents and was not asked my preference. I came out smelling like an artificial strawberry (sorry scents make me nauseous). MIL told me she was asked on her preferences. The staff assigned for my massage overworked my shoulder blade and spine that wasn’t requested on the intake form resulting in ongoing visits to my RMT and a chiropractor to fix the damage done on a pinched nerve causing the pain, migraine, and numbness in my hand. Really disappointed this appointment caused this much damage to my shoulder.
I've been to this spa twice. I booked a full-body massage for an hour and a half and a face massage for $350. When I first visited, I was surprised by the dirty ceiling. The ventilators and ceilings were full of cobwebs and dust. And on my second visit, I received the worst service without skills. Especially, I made a reservation for two people a month ago, but only one person was booked. The staff at the front desk waited for three hours Two people told me to get a massage. They were irresponsible when they saw my 70-year-old mother who drove two hours without saying sorry. The massage was so messed up, too. I only put up a hot towel and spent time. His massage hands were weak and insincere. The manager who manages the spa needs disciplinary action.
When I booked my appointment I was told that the massage would be administered by someone who is not RMT.. I didn’t think much of it but I should’ve not gone through with it. They had limited appointments and I just wanted something to relax. The lady was very nice..but My 30 min massage was interesting. She had long nails which I felt scratching me, and the approach to every move was forceful… I also was shocked she wasn’t wearing a mask, at one point she was breathing on my face when she was massaging my neck facing up. It was not worth the $90.- I also got Covid from this my trip - can’t say it was from the massage specifically but it is what happened.
My friend and I had pedicures done on Saturday. We had the upgraded version with the hot stone massage. The girl that my friend had I believed her name was Sarah was wonderful. She used more lotions and more towels to keep her legs warm. Etc Just an overall better experience. I believe the person that did mine was Katie. Going on about how the hot stones burnt your hands was not necessary. Perhaps don’t take on providing that treatment! I said no worries just do a massage without the stones. She agreed and said she would provide a great massage instead. Well that didn’t happen. Advise…don’t take on providing treatments you can’t do!
