Orient Retreat Spa

Unethical people and business model at this location. Horrible experience. I brought my mom here for her birthday and booked for a 75 minute herbal facial and 60 minute deep tissue massage. When we got there, they started to recommend the 30 minute massage instead of 60 minute and showing the menu with prices. Firstly this was a birthday treat for my mom and I did not want her to see the prices. They said we should go with 30 minute and save some money. I said no let's stick to 60 minutes. I then asked what the differences were between the facial options and the response was "the price" I repeated the question a few more times and the same answer was given. I had to ask specifically what was the difference between the herbal facial vs 3 others I named out specifically mentioning besides the price and if it included different products and services. They then went back to say I should get 30 minute massage since my mom doesn't get massages often, 60 minutes would be too long. I said declined 30 minutes offer. They brought my mom in and came back out and tried to offer me a package deal that included 5 different services valued at around $650 for $390, which the herbal facial and a 30 minute massage was included so we could use that this time and the other services next time. I recommended we remove one service valued at $110 and make the massage 60 minute instead which was valued at $78 difference. They finally admitted that they overbooked and didn't have enough time to service a 60 minute massage. I said that's what we booked for and declined the package offer. They then went to tell my mom that I said we should do 45 minute facial and 45 minute massage and came back out to tell me that my mom said 75 minute facial and 60 minute massage was too long and she would be tired from sitting. (Which I later confirmed with my mom she didn't say) so they lied to us individually about what the other said. Horrible and unethical people. Finally they agreed to keep 75 minute herbal facial and 60 minute massage and called another client to come in a bit later. When the appointment was done, it only lasted 115 minutes instead of 135 minutes. It didn't make sense so there was a whole conversation of them trying to justify that the service was fully complete which in the end, they agreed it wasn't and gave 10% off but 10% was not even worth the time difference, plus the lying, stress and horrible experience. Also overpriced. Do not recommend.
Highly impressed by this spa. Starting off with booking the appointment, the receptionist over the phone was friendly, informative and patient with my indecisiveness as I couldn't make up my mind what time I wanted to book. She made a great suggestion of how I should book my appointment as my mom was going for a massage and I was going in for a facial. She didn't book it at the same time because she said after a facial you can't go into the sauna (which I didn't know!). She also told me everything I need to bring and how to prepare myself. At the appointment, they were so patient even though we were running late. They didn't rush us and still gave us our full time for the appointment and time in the sauna and steam room. During my facial, Fiona was informative, told me at each step what was happening and also made me feel relaxed (I'm usually quite tense!). She also gave me suggestions for helping the breakouts on my face, and also told me how I can increase circulation becasue my feet are always cold. The massage during the facial was also so good! The pressure was really firm but not painful. They also provide you with herbal tea, cookies and apples and really soft towel and robe. The lotion, shampoo, conditioner etc, is also all natural so it makes the experience that much better! I also don't speak very much Mandarin (the spa is mainly Mandarin/Cantonese speaking), they made the effort to speak English to me and had written materials in English for me as I can't read Chinese. Very amazing experience and much needed time to relax. Thank you so much for giving me a refreshing experience!
I have had a membership here for over 13 years. They are extremely consistent and always provide slippers, a robe, super-soft and large towel, and tea upon arrival. It looks small but there are actually showers, a steam room, sauna, and lounge area. It is peaceful and relaxing. Some of the estheticians do not speak English well but they still make a great effort to keep you comfortable. The products are all natural with emphasis on essential oils. The herbal facial (1.5 hours) and the half hour body massage are my mains although I have delved in other treatments here and there. I have tried many other spas including the Elmwood, Uptown, several other Asian spas, and many more, but have found that nowhere else has the consistency and quality of massage as this place.
I cannot recommend this place enough! It is so comfortable and relaxing. The ambience helps you wind down and forget the stress of life both physically and mentally. The staff are kind, friendly and always ready to help accommodate and needs. There is also a refreshment table of sorts with a unique organic herbal blend that is exclusive to this spa (it tastes so good!). There are some packaged crackers, bananas and apples which you can ask a staff to cut for you. This place is a hidden gem and honestly deserves more love. All their products that are displayed or used in the treatment is an unique organic, peraban free, cruelty free, vegan blend that they had made themselves and perfected over the years. I definitely recommend this place!
This place is awesome! I went for a massage and facial with 10 friends last week. It was the best massage I received in the past couple of years. The facility is clean. The staff is very kind and they accommodated our big group very well. If you are looking for girls-outing/ mom-daughter-spa-day, this is the perfect place to go to!
