Innovative Russian spa with Turkish & Finnish influences, serving old-world Russian fare & teas.
I’m honestly stunned at how poorly run this Banya. From the moment my friend and I walked in, the service was cold, uninviting, and downright rude. The woman at the front desk didn’t bother with a simple “hi” or “welcome.” No acknowledgment or greeting. Her first words were, “We only have one locker,” followed by immediately shoving the card machine at us and asking if we were paying together or separately. She gave us towels and robes and went back sneering at us. When we told her it was our first time, she couldn’t have cared less. No explanation, no tour, no effort to make us feel comfortable. She literally pointed at the women’s changing room and then continued to ignore that. If this is the person representing your business, that’s a serious problem. Inside, the lack of etiquette from guests was just as bad — and apparently management doesn’t care. There’s a big sign on the cold plunge that says ONE PERSON AT A TIME, yet when my friend got in, two people jumped in right after her, splashing water everywhere. The food at the Richmond Hill Banya was so good that I was so excited to try it again. But this location didn’t meet those expectations. One of the dishes we ordered was honestly not good, so we politely asked if we could exchange it for something else. The woman’s response was rude and dismissive — a flat “no,” with attitude. The chicken stew was barely warm, the bread was cold and borderline stale, and the only thing remotely decent was the pickled herring salad. What makes all of this feel even worse is that the Richmond Hill Banya is nothing like this. The staff there are welcoming, helpful, and treat you like a guest, not an inconvenience. The difference between the two locations is honestly embarrassing for the brand. Save your time and money. Go to the Richmond Hill location or literally any other spa in Toronto. The Mississauga Banya desperately needs new staff, better training, and a complete reset on customer service. Right now, it’s simply not worth it.
This place will make you feel like you've been transported back to the USSR. In the beginning you will enjoy the bathhouse, they have a traditional Finnish sauna, Turkish steam room, and my personal favourite the Russian banya. After enjoying all three the owner offered to give me the oak branch parenie which was followed by a cold plunge with the man himself, who was very nice as well as all the other staff. Afterwards we went to the lounge which included a tea room and restaurant. The food was really great and having a beer with a rove on the couch surrounded by USSR memorabilia was the cherry (or red star) on top. I highly suggest checking this place out for a unique experience.
We had a great first experience at this banya on NYE. We enjoyed multiple options of free tea and delicious comfort food, specifically the pelmeni, pork salo and Georgian chicken stew. The facilities are smaller and it turned out that many others had the same idea as us, so it was busier than we liked, but understandable given the holiday. The change room is very small and with no divider at the door, you could easily be exposed to patrons in the hallway. Chatter is actually encouraged here, so if you prefer a more quiet place to relax, it may not be for you. Regardless, all employees and patrons we came across were very friendly. We'd love to return at slower hours.
The $65 entry fee is a bit steep, but the food is very fresh, and the cold plunge has a perfectly chilled temperature, absolutely divine! The saunas are extremely hot, which is fantastic. There’s no hot tub or jacuzzi, but I understand that isn’t part of the cultural experience. A big thanks to the owner for checking in on us, he’s very nice. The overall vibe is small and cozy, which I really enjoyed. BONUS: after the cold plunge and sauna, your skin will feel incredibly smooth! Wow!
It's a really great place to relax and recover from a half marathon like I did that day in Toronto. Very friendly, clean, with 3 types of saunas, a cold plunge and a cold bucket. The food in the restaurant is very good too. I enjoyed the chicken soup, and the dumplings. The variety of Teas is amazing. I made myself a combination of mint and hibiscus, which is now my favorite. 100% recommendable.
