Bokodi Floating Village

I have 13 years living in Hungary and this place made me feel outside of Hungary. The whole way of life in this village doesn’t have anything to do with Hungarian culture. I loved it because it was different. Some tips: - go only by car, but by no means with a low style (sports) car. The roads to enter are rough roads, not cement or asphalt - as a tourist, go only if you are passing by - as a photographer, you can go with only that destination in mind - there are 2 ways to enter, one is from Bokod and the other one is from Oroszlány, I liked both, but the latter is the popular one for photography - on the way there is not nice, don’t expect the place to be beautiful everywhere - I have read that locals don’t feel really good with tourists, expect some grumpy faces - it is not a recreational place, there are no coffee places for you to chill and enjoy the view. Rather you go, see it, take your pictures and go. - it is not for families, there is nothing a small child can do there. Note: my 4 stars is because it is not a tourist-friendly place, otherwise I found it fascinating.

It is a small wonderland, just like from the fairytales. Tiny houses with their own little pier. Recommend visiting just before dawn, or early morning. Also nice at sunset. These houses are privately owned and the owners take care of the lake shore. Please be aware that the owners don't really like photographers, tourist and people loitering the "neighborhood. Some piers are locked down from the public with small gate, but some are still accessible. Please respect the privacy of the owners, so we can come back to take pictures!

Nice environment really close to the town’s lake-side part. The small houses are very interesting as well, however, they are used for fishing only, it seems there are no constant residents. Maybe that’s why almost all the pathes are closed with chains and locks, and you can’t enjoy the full experience itself. The nature is still beautiful around. Be prepared, there are no services at all, even the toilets are private properties and closed individually. From the first gate not able to reach by wheelchair at all.

Do you have far too much time in your hand and you don't know what to do with it? This is the perfect place to wasting it on nothing better than to travel to a place where's nothing to see, the road possibly ruins your suspension and the surrounding area is kind of awful. On a good side, the parking is free for obvious reasons.

We went due to coming across pictures on Instagram. Most of the part is not accessible to tourists (understandable). The place does not have anything additional to offer other than seeing the houses far away. It did not exceeded my expectation.
