Gyöngyösi Sár

I visit some part of Sár-hegy, mainly during training sessions, but almost every week. I really like this adventurous natural formation, which is also rich in attractions, and the top of which can be reached by several easy and difficult routes. If someone climbs the mountain, they will be treated to magnificent views in all directions. The yellow one (the Rákóczi hiking trail) starts from the college, which takes you to the top and then leads to Mátrafüred. For me, the most magical part of the mountain is the St. Anna Chapel and its surroundings.

It is a relatively short tour from Gyongyos to the nearby Sar-hegy, but you have to climb quite a high altitude to reach the top, from where you have a very nice view of the Matra range, the Alfold and all the way to Borzsony. Most of the road is clear, so don't count on shady rest areas in the heat. The beginning of our road already leads past quite nice vineyards, and later on the road is also dotted with information boards accompanying the trail.

It is an amazing park to have a good hike, a few hours or a day. The panorama is really amazing, also the biodiversity and the relaxing, silent environment. Be careful by the camp places if fire isn`t forbidden due the time of your visit - there is a good reason why periodically you can`t make camp fire. Also, please, be civilized and bring your garbage back with you.

The 500-meter-high slopes of Sár-hegy, planted with vineyards, are located on the northeastern border of Gyöngyös, close to the main road 3; it is most easily reached from the road 2416 that branches off from it. The heavily eroded outcrop is a mountain of the Central Mátra volcanic massif that juts out far to the south like a peninsula.

There are exciting hikes up the mountain. From the "peak" there is a magnificent view of the surrounding landscape and settlements.
