Kitaibel Pál Viewing Tower

Vonyarcvashegy, Kitaibel Pál Lookout is a three-story, wooden lookout tower built on the 217-meter peak of the Keszthely Mountains, Vas-hegy, and opened in 2002. The lookout tower is not as well known as the others in Balaton, but it is still a very good place. From the tower we can see Lake Balaton below us, the houses of Vonyarcvashegy bordered by the vineyards, and the southern half of the Keszthely Mountains. The lookout tower was named after the famous 18th-century Hungarian botanist, Kitaibel Pál.

The climb is easy, the difficulty is manageable even for a 3 year old child. Part of the way up is through a pine forest. The view is beautiful, 1 level below the cross is beautiful. It is forbidden to go up to the viewpoint and it is no longer possible because the ladder/stairs have already been dismantled. If you have time, don't miss it.

The climb is a little steep, but it's worth it. You have a wonderful view over Lake Balaton, and if you need a bit of peace and quiet, this is the perfect place. There's not a soul around. Unfortunately, the tower isn't in the best condition; a few minor repairs, especially to the railings, are urgently needed.

We visited the area over the weekend and checked out a few lookouts. We stopped by the dirt road along Batsányi Street, leading to the cross of light, and then followed the dirt road that took us up to the cross, and from there a few meters higher we reached the lookout.

One of the most beautiful viewpoints on the north coast, with a clear view that can be seen very far. The viewpoint itself is in pretty bad shape, but the panorama makes up for everything - even the steep climb that leads up to it.
