Following the green T sign, we can see it at several points along the 11 km nature trail named after the Hungarian geologist Lajos Lóczy, which can be covered in about 4 hours. There is a stunning view of the lake from the Szélmarta Rocks or from Apáti Hill opposite it. It is a strictly protected area that can be observed well from the heights and is otherwise not accessible. It is not connected to Lake Balaton, but lies 12 meters higher than it. In the past 10 years, it has been transformed into an undisturbed aquatic and marsh habitat through habitat reconstruction. We visited it again in September 2024 and were pleased to see that its wildlife is still healthy and beautiful. Although the open water surface is smaller and the water level is lower, it survived this year's hot and dry summer.

You can walk around the Outer Lake starting from the Apáti parking lot, passing by the Watchtower lookout, and then returning to the parking lot by passing by the Szélmarta rocks. The route and the panorama are incomparably beautiful!

The Tihany Peninsula is an excellent excursion destination in winter and summer. The Outer Lake is overgrown with reeds and is less well-kept than the Inner Lake. The surrounding mountain tops offer a great view of the lake system.

Really beautiful area and good views from the tower, a walk from the parking lot of about 2 km, a bit steep in some places.

Great wetlands with excellent walking trails from the car park just off the main coastal road.
