We went there as it was on the bucket list of our guide of eastern Hungary but it was really disappointing. Paid 455huf (normally 450 but the lady was supposedly « out of change ») to park in the huge parking just a few hundred meters from the hill. We walked to the hill and were utterly disappointed. The salt pools are clean on the upper side but so dirty and gross on the lower side. The view from behind the hill is very limited, you have to be a paying customer of the hotel to get a clear view. I don’t know how they extract the water but nothing seems natural anymore and they are even now (august 2020) building a second salt pool hill (you can see the foundations in concrete and they will just add a pipe to pour water on it). If you plan to visit just to take a picture, there are some free parking spaces just a few meters after the parking entrance across the road, at least you won’t pay for the disappointment!
This place is a great disappointment. It could have been a beautiful geological site, but they've decided to build ha huge Hotel and Pool directly next to it. It seems they take the springwater and guide it to the pools, so the rock formation don't get their water and minerals any more. It's the most stupid thing I've seen in a while and it's a perfect example on how to destroy a cool sight. The hotel poorly tried to build artificial cascades right next to the spring, which honestly looks terrible. Great disappointment. Not worth a visit.
I remember when the hotel wasn’t there. It was about 20 yrs ago and I was bathing in the natural pond with some others and I felt I’m in heaven. The ponds were beautiful and we took care of it. My heart is broken what they did to this place. It’s a huge problem with humanity that they need to ruin everything that is a natural just to get more money. It disgusts me, tbh. What’s wrong with people?
Like many have written before: the actual salt hill is within the property of the hotel and cannot be accessed. You can park your car for 1000FT and walk towards it, but the view is not worth it. What a horrendous waste of a natural phenomenon by a private company that doesn’t even value it. This makes me sad and angry about the way my country treats its nature!
If you don't want to pay for parking you can park you car for free at the parking space near the hotel (actualy a little bit below it). From the top of the parking there is a way down the hill to a pond and you can continue along the street and then shorten your way across the meadow between the aqua parks, over the bridge and throuh a hole in the fence.
