Sunset Resort

We booked a flat with a LAKE VIEW, and we paid for that as everybody else who paid for a lake view (this one is the most expensive room they have). For our surprise, when we got in the flat, the view was NOT A LAKE VIEW at all! It was a STREET VIEW (a horrible one) and we could only see the lake through a tinny point in the corner of the building. All pictures in the website and at Booking.com show an spectacular view of the lake, not a street view, so this is misleading propaganda to cheat on the guests! I went to the reception to let them know that I was really disappointed, as the main reason we paid for that room was exactly because of the view, and the one we got was definitely not a lake view. They told me that the flat is in the lake view category and that they were fully booked, so it wouldn't be possible to put us in another flat (we saw tons of empty flats though). I again explained that I didn't pay to have a street view and the receptionist even agreed with me that what we had was a view from the street. The hotel didn't show any respect for us in this matter, as if we were not paying for the same as other guests. Not sure if it was because we are not Hungarians. Then they tried to buy us, and make us shut up, by giving us a bottle of wine and chocolates, but come on, we are not that cheap! A horrible wine, which costs 1.200 huf in the grocery store. A total disrespect! They also pretended that we were invited to an exclusive event in the resort, but guess what? All guests were there, again a total disrespect! And the cherry on the top was the check-out. We rented 2 sunbeds and they charged us for 4 sunbeds! It was not enough for them to treat us really bad, in the end they charged us even more! The host informed us just 16 hours before our arrival that they could no longer accommodate us. I tried calling them, but they didn’t answer. Instead, they messaged us asking that we cancel the booking from our side. I asked them to do it instead, since I was no longer able to cancel it for free, but they refused, so I had to contact customer service. Update: Response to the owner's comment here: this absolutely did happen, I booked the accommodation through booking.com for June 28–30, 2025 at Sunset Resort, apartment 507.

Oh my god – what a wonderful time we have had here!! No words for how pampered we felt by all the benefits and offers the place had (grill, sup, mini-golf, beautiful patio and more...). They even invited us to an amazing party at the resort for free! Staff was very kind. Although at places not as impressive/nicely put together as others, but otherwise a beautiful place where one can have a wonderful holiday!

It was nice but be aware of the swarm of bugs which was present at our balcony in the evening. It may have been due to the time we were there (mid july) but not sure. Also I think that employees not knowing basic english was kind of weird and it made communication with the staff a bit troublesome sometimes.

The apartment was okay, however, we couldn't enjoy the evenings on the balcony because swarms of mosquitoes ruined them. Unfortunately, we can't post a photo to document the full extent of the problem. It wasn't a holiday, it was a plague. Never again to Lake Balaton.
