Széchenyi square

Széchenyi Square is hands down one of my favorite spots in Pécs. It’s got everything—history, chill vibes, and that gorgeous old mosque-turned-church right in the middle. The whole square is lined with cafés and cool buildings, and there's always something interesting going on. I happened to visit during Zsolnay Fényfesztivál, and it totally brought the place to life! Live music, food stalls, people dancing—it felt like the whole city came out to celebrate. The atmosphere was electric but still cozy enough to relax with a coffee and people-watch. At night, the lights and the buzz made it even more magical. If you're ever in Pécs, make sure to swing by the square—especially if there's a festival happening. It’s an experience you won’t forget!

Széchenyi Square (Széchenyi tér) in Pécs is the vibrant heart of the city, offering a perfect blend of history, culture, and modern life. Surrounded by stunning historical buildings and adorned with the iconic equestrian statue of János Hunyadi, the square exudes charm and elegance. The beautifully preserved Ottoman-era Gázi Kászim Pasha Mosque, now the Downtown Candlemas Church, adds a unique historical touch. Lined with cozy cafes, shops, and cultural landmarks, Széchenyi tér is a lively meeting point for locals and visitors alike. Its spacious design and picturesque setting make it an ideal place to relax, enjoy events, or simply soak in the beauty of Pécs.

Széchenyi Square in Pécs is surrounded by historic buildings, cafés, and important landmarks. It’s a great place to sit down, grab a coffee, and observe city life. The square is spacious and nicely laid out, making it a natural meeting point and a good starting point for exploring the old town. That said, some parts feel more commercial than atmospheric. Still, the mix of history, everyday life, and central location makes it one of the nicest spots in the city, even if it’s not perfect.

Beautiful, Mediterranean feeling in the heart of Pécs. Hot spot for tourists, attractions and restaurants, coffees and confectioneries. Defenetaly worth a visit, easy access to all the main attractions, churches, synagogue, shopping centres and souvenir shops. Average prices, cheaper than the capital (Budapest). Unfortunately very limited public toilets/ restrooms. Fully accessible for people with physical disabilities (wheelchair).

This square is simply the most beautiful and essential part of Pécs. It's not just historical; it's where you truly feel the city's pulse. It's dominated by the incredible Candlemas Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the impressive City Hall, which gives the square its grand, historical focal point. The square is lined with lovely cafés and restaurants, making it the perfect spot for relaxing and people-watching.
