Visegrádi Szent Kozma és Damján Rehabilitációs Szakkórház és Gyógyfürdő

End of October 2021 - I spent 2.5 weeks at the Visegrád Rehabilitation Specialist Hospital - after my freshly operated knee prosthesis surgery. The hospital itself really needs renovation - it seems to be an old building that should have been renovated a long time ago. I chose the paid room, which is a slightly more acceptable category - 2 beds with private bathroom, TV, refrigerator, so comfortable, not crowded - much friendlier. Unfortunately, the patient who has just had surgery does not have many options here - in fact, the situation here is a continuation of the hospital. With medical supervision and permanent nursing staff. The patient cannot go, he cannot see almost anything from the wonderful beautiful environment where this hospital is located, with a nice large park, with its own spa facility - but the only thing that could be considered after a freshly operated surgery was physiotherapy. The patient who has just had surgery cannot go out anywhere - not even to the cafeteria. The physiotherapy - that wasn't too much time - 45-50 minutes a day - on weekends and if it fell on a holiday - then nothing. That was also useful, but I thought there would be more opportunities for rehabilitation. It's true, there are a lot of patients and staff, so there were no more opportunities for physiotherapy. Unfortunately, Covid has already taken its toll here too - so they started to reduce the nursing staff, as they were redirected to other hospitals. The nurses were nice and friendly, helpful by the way. This part of the hospital, but I think the rest of the hospital was clean too - I saw that they paid great attention to cleanliness. The food is completely hospital - in fact, lunch was even delicious and sufficient. Breakfast and dinner are already poor - so there is a strong need for additional supplements. Overall, I may have expected more from this rehabilitation - but I think it was not ineffective, because it improved a lot in terms of being able to continue the recovery process at home.
For an elderly, vulnerable patient struggling with other illnesses, this institution cannot provide the patient and family with a reassuring rehabilitation, or with reintegration into their own usual routine. My mother spent nearly three weeks in the institution. The goal was to rehabilitate after a femoral neck fracture, but her condition was getting worse and worse; her walking, far from improving, was getting worse. Instead of leaving, the surgery had to be repeated due to an infection. Unfortunately, she left after that. If someone were to choose this institution for their elderly relative and not be able to get into a paid room, I would definitely not recommend it. (The patient coordinator said that you have to wait six months - it's hard to put a femoral neck fracture in the calendar in advance...) Four beds placed in a room that was once designed for two beds are now an obstacle course for elderly people with limited mobility. Of course, they don't always make it to the toilet in the hallway. This happened to my mother once, and during the visit, she was humiliated by an employee in front of the other patients. The ward was not clean, the table was sticky, and you could only sit sideways, which does not make eating easier for a patient who cannot go out for lunch. They quarantined their room for three days, saying they had an E. coli infection. They announced this through the door - my mother, who had worked in a hospital laboratory for over 50 years and as a microbiology assistant for over 30 years, found this statement very strange, but precisely because she had socialized in such a workplace, she only complained to us. These events took a lot of emotional toll on her.
I had very good experiences during all seven of my rehabilitation treatments. I used the institution's services while struggling with a rather serious, painful joint problem resulting from several fractures. The attentiveness of Dr. Hegedüs, the nurses, physiotherapists, and physical therapy staff were all as helpful as possible. I must add that a lot also depends on our relationships, when we do not care about mentioning the shortcomings, but rather pay attention to the goal, keeping in mind the improvement of our condition. The regular 20 minutes of exercise per day, plus water exercise, helps a lot. There is also a beautiful area suitable for walking and hiking, not to mention the breathtaking view of the landscape, and the air to breathe. You can always find a suitable conversation partner, and if not, the library is also available with many good books. What does it matter that it is not the most modern institution! It's clean, tidy, they cook deliciously, the people are nice. Of course, I was in a double room, I didn't have to go to the corridor if I had something to do.... When I was in a shared, four-bed room once, it was more difficult, especially after having just had surgery. I tried to deal with the situation as best I could, keeping improvement in mind. But I learned to walk again! That says more than anything! THANK YOU!
The institute is a building complex with a strong retro feel in the Gizella settlement of Visegrád, in a picturesque environment, with a fabulous park and promenades enriched with forest and fresh air. The hospital environment is worn out and shabby in every detail. The management is unreasonable, outdated, not adapted to today's times, unmodern, the abundance of written rules and outdated house rules that need to be revised annoy the peace of the hospital patients. The medical care is symbolic, occasional and unsatisfactory. The lunch meal is acceptable, of a sanatorium-level factory kitchen standard, which takes into account the other diseases and needs of the patients. The standard of breakfast and dinner is already poor, flat and unfortunately suffers from vitamin deficiency. The institution owes its fame and charm - despite its condition - to the physiotherapists who work tirelessly and at an outstanding level. With their diligent and conscientious expertise, they carry the entire healing mechanism on their backs. Their expert skills and touching kindness are the real help in healing (*****)! Sincere thanks for their work!
I came for rehabilitation after knee surgery. The retro nature of the building was known from the reviews, but it is frustrating that an institution in such a beautiful location, which is used by many elderly people, is left in such prehistoric conditions. The nurses tried to compensate for this condition with their kindness and helpfulness. I can only describe the best about every nurse and male nurse. I would like to highlight the extraordinary expertise of the physiotherapists, their attitude towards the patient and their recovery. I am eternally grateful to my physiotherapist Krisztina Tánczos. She helped me a lot not only professionally, but also personally. And what is also very important in the building is the cafeteria. The lady who runs it is infinitely kind, patient and gets almost everything on request, and the selection is satisfactory. This hospital deserves a complete renovation.
