What a random and surprisingly awesome experience! While exploring Iceland near a power plant, we stumbled upon a hot shower in the middle of nowhere – and the best part? It's free to use! It felt like a hidden gem, with no other facilities around. The water did have that distinct sulphur smell, which is common in geothermal areas, but honestly, it didn’t detract from the experience. The real highlight was the nearby hot river, which added an extra level of uniqueness to this already unforgettable stop. It’s not every day you come across a hot shower in such an unexpected place, and I’m so glad we did. Definitely a must-see if you’re in the area!

I was really excited and looking forward to take a warm shower under this natural shower but when I arrived I was disappointed to see the the water was not flowing!! I don’t want to discourage anyone from visiting as there is always the possibility that it might started flowing again since this review was made! If it’s working again then please take a shower on my behalf :(

A curious and fun detour—if you’ve got the time, it’s absolutely worth the stop! It might not be a must-see for the rushed traveler, but our kids were thrilled and full of excitement. Sometimes it’s the unexpected places that spark the biggest smiles!

Definitely recommend having a look at the HOT shower here in the middle of nowhere! Take care that in wintertime the parking lot around the shower is PURE ICE. We parked at the top of street because we were worried we wouldn’t come up again.

A humble hot shower in remote Iceland. Worth the detour — and then keep going to check out the geothermal plant with the pipe that goes across the road and the Leirhnjúkur hiking area.
