The Beer Spa

This was an amazing experience! I was worried it would be a little kitschy, but this was one of the top spa experiences we had in Iceland. The place is so beautiful, very clean facilities, and modern design. The location has sweeping views of the fjord. It was really stunning on a sunny day. The food in the restaurant was fantastic, and the beer was really good. The spa starts with a check in and then a quick shower and change in their changing rooms. They then guided us to our beer baths, in private rooms with beer on tap. The bath was fun and unique. The bath is wooden filled with young beer. Next to the beer bath there is a beer tap to enjoy as you relax. The sauna is small but pleasant experience and there are two hot baths outside for soaking and enjoying the views and nature (with beer service). The facilities, the views, the beer, and the food all made for one of the more fun and entertaining days we had in Iceland. I whole heartedly recommend this for anyone looking for a unique fun experience.
At first I though soaking in a beer bath was just a gimmick to get my husband into a spa, but it was so much more. After soaking the beer bath, our skin and hair were soft for days. I have curly hair and didn't have any product with me. I dunked my hair in the bath at the suggestion of the staff. I was expecting a frizzy disaster, but my hair was smooth , soft, and perfectly curled with no product! My husband is quite hirsuit, and the beer bath turned his wiry body hair into kitten-soft fuzz. Afraid of smelling like beer? Don't worry! They use the new beer which hasn't fermented yet so doesn't have the typical beer. The also add spent brewer's yeast, which is no longer active, but is rich in vitamins and minerals your skin will love. This place is tucked away in a beautiful spot in Northern Iceland, and the drive was scenic with many charming villages and gorgeous countryside. Be sure to tour the brewery as well, as they are owned and ran by the same very hospitable family.
This was an amazing experience. My advice to get the most out of your experience is to get here possibly an hour early and relax in the outdoor hot tubs and soak up the outdoor views, or use the sauna/infra red sauna. You can even enjoy a beer while sitting outside. They will get you when it is your time for the beer spa, a pre fermented bath of water and warm beer; in there you can enjoy a 30 minute private time with a keg and a tap to enjoy beers /only two per person in the bath. Afterwards you can recover upstairs in the relaxation room and you will leave there feeling amazing. They recommend not to shower after the beer spa. They say that the hops is good for your skin. It will be a unique experience to always remember. I would advise to make a reservation. It is about a 30 minute drive from Akureyri.
Loved the experience but felt a little put on the back burner. No robes as they were out for the day. No explanation. Didn’t even get told about the hot tub or relaxation room. When checking in was just told to go sit in sauna and wait. I was told by a friend prior you go in the hot tub but that didn’t happen? Confused was an understatement. Was told I had to shower before the beer spa? But it was private ? I get that you normally do it but it was weird I wasn’t told this when checking in. Just seemed unorganized with absolutely no direction. no signs. No help. Had no idea we could even drink the beer or bring them out . Saw others doing it. I’m honestly still confused by the whole thing . I’m giving it 4 stars because my skin felt amazing after. And I had fun even though I was lost most of the stay .
We had an excellent experience here at The Beer Spa. The employees were extremely accommodating, kind and generous with information about the spa. Here is my tip: get there 1/2hr before your appointment and sit out back behind the building to soak in the hot tub while enjoying a beer and the picturesque scenery all around you. The changing room was clean with a private shower. The tubs are cleaned after each use. Because this is an intimate experience the business only takes a handful of people a day so make sure you reserve a spot ahead of time. This is located in North Iceland so if you have plans of going out there this is a must. They also sell beer shampoo, conditioner and body wash and they're worth the money. We will definitely go again.
