Asunaro Hot Spring

Morning Bath, July 20, 2024 Arrived around 9:30 AM. The bath fee was 450 yen, the shoe lockers were free, the laundry baskets were free, and there were 100-yen return lockers. No soaps were provided. There were only four or five other guests, so it was empty. There was one main bath, and the water temperature was around 41-42°C. It was colorless and clear, and had no scent. There was also a waterfall bath and a jet bath, and the jet bath at the back was powerful and very pleasant. There was also a small, lukewarm bath near the bathroom entrance, about 38°C, I think. The sauna was over 90°C on the thermometer, and there was no mat, so the soles of my feet were hot. I put a towel under my buttocks, but locals brought chairs from the washing area to sit on. The cold water bath was fine, but there was no open-air bath, so you couldn't bathe in the open air. As others have noted, the customers' manners were not very good. I went into the sauna completely soaked, and it was natural to wring out the towels, and I didn't even get into the cold bath until I was completely sweaty. I warmed up nicely, washed my body thoroughly, and left.

August 20, 2021 This is a report on the family baths. Asunaro Onsen has many family baths, so reservations are generally not necessary. It costs 1,500 yen per hour, with extensions possible in 30-minute increments. Payment is made in advance at the ticket machine. Apparently there are special rooms, but I wasn't able to experience them this time. The bathtub was drained, so I was told at the reception desk, "We'll give you 10 minutes of free time, so please fill it up. Then, when you leave, please drain the water." A huge faucet, the largest I've ever seen, dispenses a huge amount of hot water, so the bath quickly fills up. It was an interesting experience. In addition to the changing room, there was also a tatami room with a nice table. It's open 24 hours a day, but the large public bath is closed between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM for cleaning. Judging from the atmosphere of the reception floor (animal figurines and stuffed animals?), I wondered if this was part of the same chain as Obiraki Onsen in Hirosaki. The bathtub was large and very comfortable.

This is a bit disappointing in Aomori, where many public baths have distinctive hot springs that flow directly from the source. The facility seems to have been rebuilt and is clean. However, the bad points are noticeable. The smoking area is not separated, and there is only an intake type in one corner on the way from the entrance to the bath. People come in even though there are several signs saying that tattoos are not allowed. When I told the staff, they just said "Oh, sorry," and ignored me without checking or warning me. If they don't intend to make people leave, they shouldn't put up signs. It's fine for people who live nearby, but it's not suitable for people who want to go on a hot spring tour.

◾️Family Bath◾️Sauna◾️Natural Hot Spring◾️Ganbanyoku◾️ I often use the sauna here, and the cold bath is simply amazing. The water quality is comparable to that of Japan's top saunas. Because it has a vibrating mechanism, it's only about 16 degrees, but it gently envelops you and helps to cool you down. The water is also drinkable, so you can relax while sipping Aomori's delicious, nutritious water. However, it's such a shame that there's no space to relax, even though there's so much natural beauty all around! The sauna and cold bath are so amazing that it's almost a shame, so please drop by. However, the road is a little narrow, so be careful at night. It's quite dark, and you might get into an accident if it's your first time. I'll definitely go again. The hot spring water was also amazing!

Recently, I've seen groups of 4-5 young people on Tuesday-Friday nights who all jump into the lukewarm bath without even washing themselves, draining more than half the water. I wish they'd stop! Also, they bring chairs into the sauna even though it's prohibited, and they're noisy talking inside! I don't know why, but if there's someone without tattoos where they're sitting, they'll sit next to them, but they absolutely won't sit next to someone with tattoos if there are several people with tattoos. It's not like they're scary! I came here to relax in the bath, but people like that are a nuisance!
