Bandai Atami Onsen Yumoto Motoyu

I tried to take a bath at Yurax Atami, but found it was under construction, so I searched the surrounding area and ended up here. This is a public bath, so it was very cheap at 300 yen for adults. There are no amenities, so you'll need to bring your own shampoo, body soap, etc. You pay the bathing fee at the reception, and there are free lockers in the changing room with lockers. There are two types of baths: a washing area, hot water, and lukewarm water. The flushing water in the washing area seems to be broken? There is only one shower faucet, but this is drawn from the lukewarm water, so it's cold (lol). However, the sulfur smell when you shower makes you realize you're in a hot spring. Most of the faucets were broken, but a customer, perhaps a local, advised me to use it. It's a good opportunity to have this kind of interaction. I alternated between hot and lukewarm water, but I think it's fine to choose whichever you prefer. There is also information about the history of this hot spring on the connecting path, which states that the lukewarm water is more famous and is better for the skin. You can also learn a little about history. The building is full of old Showa-era atmosphere, but it is a nice facility with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Some people may like it and some may not, but I had a very good impression of it. I will use it again!

I got lost. Heading toward Bandai Atami Station, I parked at the nearby tourist association. With my back to the station, I walked a little way down the green path to the left, and saw a sign for Motoyu, directing me to turn right. "Wait, is it really there?" I thought. It had a very Showa-era feel, reminiscent of Spirited Away. The price varies depending on the time of day, and after 4 PM it was only 300 yen! I paid the man in cash, and nervously walked down the back corridor, still in my shoes, to the men's bath at the front and the women's at the back. It was surprisingly clean, so I was relieved. There were lockers with locks. However, there was no soap or shampoo. There was only one shower. There was a large cold bath and a small hot bath. Be sure to pour yourself over yourself in the small one; doing it the other way around will make you shiver. But after warming up in the hot water, the cold water felt surprisingly good, too. A sign outside said to finish by taking a cold bath to stabilize your blood pressure. I'd love to see them put them up in changing rooms too. My skin really did become so smooth. Also, my body felt warm all the time. I didn't know this. I want everyone to try it. And it's even better that it's close to Bandai Atami IC!

This retro-Showa era hot spring bathhouse is beloved by locals! It's one of a kind, so if you're in Bandai Onsen and don't have much time, I recommend stopping by here. Other large hot springs probably feel like the typical inns you'd find in other regions, but... A local lady was very kind to me. I went right after a day trip to the hot spring at the inn next door, so I didn't need towels or soap, but you'll need to bring your own, as they're not provided or sold there. Since so many people visit, the facilities are well-maintained and clean. The water is a little milky, but mostly clear. Apparently it's known for its effectiveness against atopic dermatitis, so people come from far and wide. There are two baths, a hot one and a gentle one, which you can alternate between. It's not a luxurious, sparkling hot spring, but if you like a therapeutic spa atmosphere, be sure to check it out!

March 23, 2025. A public bathhouse located in a hot spring resort that has been in operation since the Edo period. The building is old and the facilities clearly need renovation, but it's a hot spring supported by a kind-looking owner and the local people. The entrance fee is 600 yen, 400 yen from 2 PM, and an amazing 300 yen from 4 PM! They operate on a time-based pricing system. The style of bathing is alternating between hot and lukewarm water. It was cold today, so I only soaked in the hot water. Unfortunately, there was no hot water coming out of the taps or showers, possibly due to a boiler malfunction. We had no choice but to wash our hair in the hot spring water in the bath. There's no hairdryer provided, but the owner kindly allowed us to bring our own, so we give it 4 stars.

There are two baths: "Hot" and "Mild." The larger one is the milder one. I suspect the milder baths are created because the source water temperature is low.
