Dake Onsen town

Although it is a little far from the city center, this is a historic hot spring that was ranked as East's Maegashira in the hot spring rankings during the Edo period. It is rich in minerals such as sulfur and calcium, and the spring water is so rich that footprints remain on the floor as it flows directly from the source. On the third Tuesday of every month, a "Yuhana Nagashi" ceremony is held, in which the mineral deposits that have accumulated in the pipes that carry the hot spring are cleaned out, allowing visitors to bathe in water that is several times murkier than usual. The hot spring also has a large amount of water, making it very warming.

This is the current state of the mountain hotel that has closed down. The roof of the shop that was in front of the building has collapsed, but from a distance the building itself still looks intact. Its selling points were Matagi-meshi (rice cooked in a pot with pheasant meat, wild vegetables, and maitake mushrooms, which were rare at the time) and its all-wooden bath. Besides Matagi-meshi, the dinner menu at the restaurant also offered game meats such as venison, bear meat, and rabbit meat, as well as sake made from the bones of char, so it's very unfortunate that it has closed down.

I love hot springs, and I recommend Dake Onsen to everyone. I also recommend it for hot spring therapy. After exploring the area, I felt that this is a simple hot spring town, and that many inns and shops have been closing in recent years. However, I have great respect for the locals who continue to liven up the town by holding summer festivals and various events. I'm rooting for you, so keep it up. It's rare to find such a wonderful, simple hot spring.

I've visited this place many times in the past. The bustle of the daytime is followed by a lonely silence as dusk approaches. At first, I was put off by the strong hot spring ingredients. However, after visiting several times, my body got used to it. I think the hot springs are wonderful, but I also like the atmosphere here, so I hope it will continue to be popular for a long time.
