Fujitsu Onsen

The official website advertises meal courses featuring pine, bamboo, and plum, as well as crab, but when you try to make a reservation online, only a limited selection of courses are available. Over the phone, I was told that fewer courses are available outside of the crab's seasonal season. There are also no convenience stores nearby, and no alcohol vending machines on-site, so aside from the food and drink provided, your only options are the free soft drink coffee machine and vending machines. As such, the services available vary depending on the season, so it's best to check carefully before staying. As the only hot spring inn in the Maizuru area, it's open year-round. Furthermore, the staff were very helpful, explaining the facilities available during my stay and arranging transportation. Despite visiting this area, famous for its Matsuba crab, during the closed season, I was extremely satisfied with my stay. I'd like to return in winter, when the dining room's pond, which was empty due to the off-season, will be filled with Matsuba crab.

I was surprised by how deserted the exterior and lobby were. The baths included two types of open-air baths, and there was a sauna in the changing room. For dinner, we had a mini kaiseki meal. The portions were generous, and the rice was delicious. There was sashimi, crab, scallop gratin, grilled Spanish mackerel, pickled vegetables, and tempura of fiddlehead ferns. The yakiniku sauce was also delicious. I was very satisfied with the meal. Breakfast also included several small dishes. The natto (fermented soybeans) was delicious too. We didn't need to buy water as we could get it from the water dispenser in the lobby. We also had 30 minutes of free table tennis. The room was very clean, and the bathroom was spotless. I was pleasantly surprised. I was very satisfied for the price.

It's relaxing. Not many people. If you become a member, you can bathe in the hot springs even if you're not staying overnight. If you pay the annual membership fee of ¥2,500, you'll get five free tickets from 5pm on weekdays and 11am on weekends. Just go five times a year and you can enter for just ¥500 per visit. Perfect for families, etc. A companion costs an additional ¥600, but compared to the hot spring bathhouses in Maizuru city, it's cheap, spacious, and empty. I've known about it for a while, but this time I decided to try it. I came at 11am on a Saturday and it was fully booked. I plan to go several times a year in the future. It's about 10 minutes from downtown Nishi-Maizuru. It's a little far from the city center, but within acceptable limits.

The hotel had a hot spring bath, but one disappointment was that the open-air bath wasn't available for morning use. The sign said it was available from 10 AM. Since check-out was at 10 AM, it was impossible. I think the open-air bath is the best part of a morning bath, so I really wanted to use it! The room was spacious and clean, and the explanation of the facilities at reception was excellent! The ladies at the restaurant were also very friendly, and I was very satisfied.

Crab season has started, so I went with a friend who lives in Maizuru. We reserved 1.5 crabs. The amount was more than enough. In the end, we ended up leaving a few. However, considering the overall service and price, I think it was about what you'd expect.
