Genji Koh

The hotel feels a little old, but the scent of incense burning here and there adds to the relaxing atmosphere. They also offer a yukata selection service, which I think is a great feature for women. I tried burning the incense provided in my room, but it smelled like something you'd find in a temple, and I personally didn't find it particularly pleasant, which was a bit disappointing. There were about five sticks provided, but the scent was so strong that it tired my nose, so I couldn't enjoy them all. The view from the open-air bath was spectacular, and the atmosphere was wonderful. However, the door to the open-air bath was heavy, making it a bit difficult to get in. Also, the shower temperature was unstable in some areas, and in some places only lukewarm water was available, which was disappointing, as it left me feeling cold. The food overall was a bit bland. The chef offered a complimentary dish, but based on other reviews, it felt more like part of the course than a complimentary treat. My portion of the three-kind meat platter was fatty rather than lean, so to be honest I didn't eat much of it. On the other hand, the boiled fish was very delicious and left a lasting impression. Taking the service, food, and room into consideration overall, I feel a rating of about 3 stars is appropriate.

Would give 3.5 stars if I could. *10/10 for beautiful views and beautiful baths on the 10th floor. *8/10 for the room. The room was so beautiful, spacious, and comfortable, but the room's phone didn't work, so I had to make a few trips down to the reception desk. Also, we were surprised that no one came and set up our futons for us in the evening. That's been the norm at every other ryokan we've been to. *6/10 for service. There were staff who were exceptionally helpful and kind when we checked in and when we left the parking lot, but there was also one exceptionally rude staff who had zero interest in customer feedback (wish I'd taken note of his name, but he's the one who was there when we checked out). *4/10 for the option to reserve a bath. It costs ¥3,300 to reserve a bath for 45 minutes, which is a nice option for families, but there are no rotenburo, so you'll miss out on the amazing views. *5/10 for the prices in general. The price of the room itself was quite reasonable, but the prices for food, massages, and reserved baths were all a bit much, I feel. *8/10 for location. It's right on the beach, and there are a surprising number of nice restaurants and cafes in the area as long as you have a car. 40/60

Approximately an hour’s drive from Nagoya, this onsen in Minamichita is well worth a visit. Our Japanese-Western style room was simple yet comfortable with a beautiful seaside view. The outdoor onsen on the top floor also had a great view of the beach. It seemed like we were the only non-Japanese guests but the staff were friendly and helpful, making an extra effort to explain everything in English. We also had some great conversations (with our broken Japanese) with the other guests. One thing we didn’t quite like was the fact that you wear the same slippers around your room as the one you wear when you go outside - this concept seemed unusual for us - but otherwise a highly enjoyable stay.

I had such a beautiful and relaxing stay at Genjikoh Ryokan (源氏香) in Minamichita, Aichi. The location is amazing right in front of the ocean! I could see the sea from my room, and the view was absolutely stunning. The onsen was definitely my favorite part. So peaceful, with a view of the ocean, and the perfect way to unwind after a long day. The staff were super kind and helpful, and everything about the ryokan felt very thoughtful and traditional. You can tell they care a lot about the guest experience. If you’re visiting Aichi and want a calm, scenic place to stay with a real Japanese touch, I 100% recommend this ryokan. I’d love to come back someday!

This inn was an awesome place to get away from the city & the room was ocean front! The dinner & breakfast was exceptional & it exceeded my expectations! The room was large enough for 5 people to sleep comfortably. They had bath on several floors but the top floor is better than the private one.
