You pay the 410 yen entrance fee at the reception. Shoes are stored in lockers. Be careful, as the shoe storage area and the slipper storage area are a little distance apart. I almost went in barefoot without realizing it. They also give you a key for the locker in the changing room, so you'll need two keys to go to the bath. Past the toilets, there's a large bath and a medium-sized bath, each with a curtain indicating men's and women's baths. I think it changes depending on the day. Today, the medium-sized bath is the women's bath. After passing through the curtain, there are shoe lockers for slippers, but many people just leave their shoes off without putting them in the lockers. I tried putting my slippers in the locker anyway. Incidentally, when I left, my slippers were gone. Someone who had left before me was also complaining that their slippers weren't where they'd been, so the chances of your slippers being left behind might be low. The changing room isn't very spacious. There are three sinks, three hair dryers, tissues, a fan, and a weighing scale (which wasn't working because I didn't know how to use it). There's a toilet in the changing room. There are about five showers in the bathroom. (I counted them but forgot the exact number.) Rinse-in shampoo, body soap, and bar soap are provided. There's one indoor bath. There's one place where a jet of water is sprayed out. The hot spring water is poured in, but the spring water is cold. It was written as 35 or 38 degrees Celsius, but it felt much colder. The bath water is tasteless and odorless, but the spring water being poured in has a strong sulfurous smell. Hmm, nice♪ There are two open-air baths. There were people only in the one closer to the entrance, so I went to the open-air bath further inside, but the water was cold, so I went into the warmer open-air bath closer to the entrance. The open-air baths are quite cold, so even after staying in for a long time, my body didn't warm up much; the indoor baths were warmer. When I got too hot in the indoor bath, I cooled down in the colder outdoor bath and alternated between the two. There's also a sauna and a cold plunge pool outside. The sauna is an extra charge. In front of the reception area, there's a rest area with benches, a TV, massage chairs (for a fee), and free cold barley tea. The barley tea was delicious! It's a very good hot spring, inexpensive at 410 yen, yet well-equipped. My skin was incredibly smooth the next day. …………………………………………………………………… This was my first visit in three years. The bathing fee is 550 yen. You get a 100 yen discount with a JAF card. Previously, the sauna was an extra charge, but now it's included. The lockers have band-type keys. They're free. I wish they had rubber band keys so I could tie my hair up. The amenities were the same as last time: rinse-in shampoo, body soap, and bar soap. The indoor bath has one jet outlet. Outside, there's one open-air bath, one cold plunge pool, and a sauna. As with my previous visit, the open-air bath's water temperature is low, so it's quite cold in the middle of winter. The sauna was comfortably warm, not too hot. There was water for hydration just outside the sauna. The water itself is almost odorless, but there was a sulfurous smell from where the spring water comes out. It's inexpensive and a very nice hot spring.
Hagi Abugawa Onsen - 550 yen Alkaline simple sulfur hot spring Heated, circulating, and filtered, uses chlorine-based chemicals There are one indoor bath, two outdoor baths, a cold bath, and a sauna. One of the outdoor baths was quite lukewarm (the source water is said to be 35°C, so this may be a free-flowing hot spring). The alkaline water wasn't very slippery. There was a faint hydrogen sulfide smell (sulfur scent). There are a large and a medium-sized bath, and the baths seem to alternate between men's and women's daily. The sauna appears to have been renovated in April 2023, and it was a beautiful sauna with a still-scented wood. The thermometer read below 80°C, but it felt a little hot. There was a kickboard-type mat at the sauna entrance. The cold bath has running water and an overflow type, making it comfortable to bathe in. Amenities include rinse-in shampoo, body soap, and soap. There are tissues, soap, and three hair dryers in the changing room. Lockers were free. In addition to lockers, there are also baskets. The outdoor bath comes with a sauna, so it's a good price. The only downside is that small insects tend to come when you bathe in the open air.
This was my first time visiting. 🔹Bath fee: ¥550 Get a ¥100 discount with your JAF membership card. 🔹Dressing room Free lockers Sink (no chair), 3 hair dryers No amenities 🔹Washing area Only 4 seats (due to limited space, people rotate between seats) 🔹Amenities Rinse-in shampoo, body soap, and Lemon soap These rinse-in shower baths are the kind I've seen occasionally in the past that seem to be harsh on hair. Best to bring your own. 🔹Baths One indoor bath (lukewarm) Two outdoor baths One of them is quite warm. The sauna is mostly a cold bath at 25 degrees. Sauna 🔹Other Towels and other items are sold for a fee. Free tea is available in the waiting room before reception. 🔹Outside building There's an Italian restaurant, a vegetable farm, and a campsite. 🔹Overall review Prices are reasonable, but the baths are generally old and lukewarm. The source of the hot spring is apparently 25 degrees, so the water was probably lukewarm. I like hotter water, so I felt it was lacking something.
Photo taken November 21, 2025 It was a great place. There was one indoor bath, one outdoor bath, a cold bath, and a sauna. The baths and the space were quite spacious, and the water temperature was just warm enough. I went with my father, who is almost 80, and he soaked for a long time, muttering, "This is a nice bath." I think it was around 39°C. I recommend it for people who don't like hot water. The bathroom had shampoo with conditioner, body soap, and bar soap. The changing room had tissues, alcohol, bar soap, and a hair dryer. The facility isn't new, but it's a relaxing place to relax. Note: On our second visit, a heavily tattooed person came in. When I asked the old lady at the reception desk if it was OK, she looked puzzled and said, "Hmm. It's not prohibited..." Indeed, there were no signs or signs anywhere saying "Tattoos prohibited." Please be aware of this if you plan to use the facility.
There is a JAF discount (for the member only), which is ¥100 off. There are only 5 shower stalls, so it's not ideal. Rinse-in shampoo, body soap, and bar soap are provided. There was a lot of floating debris in the open-air bath, and the water was lukewarm and not very good. It's a shame because it's spacious and has a nice location. There is a sauna and cold plunge pool next to the open-air bath, and circular seats are available for free use. For a bath that is supposed to be weakly alkaline and good for your skin, the water didn't feel smooth at all. There were also people with tattoos in the bath.
