Hanairo Hot Spring

This is my favorite hot spring. The open-air bath is free-flowing from the source, but the rest is recirculated and heated as the source is around 30°C. The lounge is open and can accommodate around 10-20 people. The massage machines installed are quite old. There is a training facility next door, and some people use the facilities after working up a sweat. What bothers me is that although there is a cafe space next to the lounge, there is no staff and you can't even sit in a chair. It costs 400 yen for adults, so it's a reasonable facility. The average stay is around an hour, and compared to other facilities, the baths are not as well-equipped. It doesn't really represent Oita, the hot spring prefecture, and in my honest opinion it feels more like a local public bath.

May 13, 2025, Bungotakada, Oita Prefecture, "Hanairo Onsen ♨️" Oita Prefecture is home to many excellent hot spring facilities. After enjoying some delicious Bungotakada soba noodles, I decided to visit a nearby hot spring! The admission fee was 400 yen for adults. After purchasing a ticket from the ticket machine, I handed it to the front desk attendant, put my shoes in a locker, and stored my valuables in a 100-yen coin locker (the 100 yen was returned after use). The changing room was spacious, and there were two free hairdryers at the sink. The bathhouse boasted two rows of washing stations, a bubble bath, a waterfall bath, a large jacuzzi bath, a sauna, and an open-air bath (carbonated spring), making for a truly comfortable stay.

The glass-walled building was so hot that a sunshade net was stretched across it. 400/200 yen 🧴 Amenities available. Lockers are 100 yen returnable. Japanese/Western style baths are apparently switched between men and women on even/odd days. It has everything you need: jet bath, waterfall shower, sauna, and open-air bath, so it's good value for money 👍️ It's also nice that there's a water cooler 🚰 On weekday afternoons, it looked like a senior citizens' club 👴 Open-air barrel bath with carbonated spring water 🛁 Four people were enjoying a friendly chat in it. For regulars, it must feel like their own home bath 😊🧴 Whether there are amenities or not, it seems that a bath set is a necessity for the people of Bungo.

I was looking for a place nearby to freshen up after a hike and found this place. It's a very reasonable price of 400 yen for adults. Both the bath area and the tub are spacious. However, this may be due to the fact that it's open after 3pm on a weekday. When the staff at the counter realized it was my first time using the facility, they kindly explained to me how to use the lockers for valuables. The lockers in the hallway are the type where you put in 100 yen and it's returned after use. The lockers in the changing rooms are also 100 yen but larger. However, the 100 yen is not returned after use.

The parking lot can accommodate about 50 cars. However, mysteriously, more than half of the spaces were already occupied. Shoe lockers are free, but no lockers. Lockers for valuables cost 10 yen. The changing room is just a frame, with no lockers. Hot springs are 400 yen. Shampoo, body wash, and soap are also provided. Large public bath, strong waterfall bath, bubbling bubble bath, sauna, lukewarm open-air bath, and two extremely cold tub baths next to it. The building is a little old, but clean. There's also a rest room, although it's a little small. 400 yen! Very satisfied!
