You can enjoy the hot springs at an altitude of 1,500 meters and buy beer from the vending machine. The staff were really friendly, and when I mentioned I was a tourist, they even gave me gas for free! If you visit Mt. Kuju, I highly recommend staying one night at Hokkein Lodge!
