Hot Spring “Iitakano

I used this bath to soothe my fatigue from driving while visiting Iitaka Roadside Station. The spring water is a sodium chloride bicarbonate cold mineral spring (hypotonic neutral cold mineral spring) with a source temperature of 17.7°C. It's said to be good for relieving fatigue and lower back pain. The water is quite low, so it's heated. The bath is quite spacious, and both the indoor and outdoor baths are slightly warm. The reclining bath was so comfortable I thought I might actually fall asleep. Other baths include a sauna, steam bath, jar bath, and herbal bath, so it was enough to keep me busy. It was a very fulfilling experience. However, the rest room was just outside the entrance, where I had to change my shoes, which made it a bit inconvenient for meeting my wife. Hot Spring Memo♨️ September 1, 2025 Kahadakyo Onsen Iitaka no Yu [Good Points] - The clear water leaves your skin feeling smooth after a bath. - The view from the open-air bath is amazing. - There's a deck, and you can look down and see the river flowing below. - Bathing outdoors while looking at the mountains opposite is liberating. - The outdoor tub bath is chilled during the summer, which is very refreshing. - The area around the dresser is very clean. - Cotton swabs and tissues are provided at each booth. - Dyson hair dryers (100 yen for 6 minutes) are available. - The in-house announcements are made between soothing background music, and the pleasant voices make requests for better manners natural and not rude. Every detail is taken care of, making for a comfortable stay. [Bad Points] - The sauna temperature was too high, and my skin turned red (after less than 10 minutes). - The nail on the wooden handle of the sauna door was hot, so I touched it with my bare hands. [Sauna] Large enough for about 4-5 people. No TV. Soothing background music with no singing. The water bath was lukewarm.
This roadside station was the first in Mie Prefecture to open in 1993 and remains popular to this day. The station system has been in place for over 1,000 years to maintain public transportation links between the capital and the countryside. The station faces National Route 166, and remnants of the Wakayama Kaido, which once crossed the Kii Peninsula and connected Wakayama Castle and Matsusaka Castle, can still be seen here. The hot springs here are mineral springs that have been flowing since ancient times, and are nearly neutral carbonated, so the warmth lasts even after bathing. The two baths, Akayunami no Yu and Tsukasa no Yu, are alternated between men and women. The station boasts the woody scent wafting from the building, the many tubs, the spring water that stays warm for a long time, and the sense of freedom it offers as you gaze out at the clear waters of the Kushida River flowing below, making it one of Mie Prefecture's most popular hot springs. There is an RV park, cottages, and a grassy park, and you can also enjoy making soba noodles and walking to Chinpu Pass.
Kohada Gorge ♨ is about a 40-50 minute drive from Matsusaka city. It's a hot spring facility located within the Iitaka Roadside Station. It might be rude to say this, but it's surprisingly clean and has a very pleasant atmosphere. The water quality is GOOD! The scenery is GOOD! You can enjoy various types of hot springs, GOOD! Ogawanko's recommendation 👍 is the steam bath. You stick only your head out and steam your whole body 🔥 10 minutes and you're warm 💦 15 minutes and you're drenched in sweat 💦 20 minutes and you give up 💣 You feel like a steamed bun 🥧 The steam bath is the best 💯 Recommended for those who wear contact lenses or glasses. The day trip to the hot springs for 870 yen is also a great deal! The 50 yen discount for JAF members is also helpful 🙏
JAF members get a 50 yen discount (membership card required). The outdoor bath is lukewarm, so you don't get too hot even if you soak for a long time. The indoor bath temperature is just right. Shoe lockers are coin-free, but the lockers in the changing room cost 100 yen and are returned. I went around 7pm, and there were about 10 people there, so it didn't seem too crowded. The sauna can only accommodate up to four people, so it was occupied by high school students who were doing sauna activities, so I'd like to try again next time.
