Hotel Iyaonsen

It's quite special to take a cable car in a remote valley to visit the onsen. The views were a little underwhelming to be honest though, you don't get a clear view of the valley. Also, I thought I knew onsen manners but there's no shower here. Apparently the right way to wash yourself in this situation is by using the onsen water while standing next to the bath. I learned that only after leaving the bath though.

Absolutely worth it going to the openair bath. We started with the 2nd floor indoor bath but should have spent more time in the open air one. The trip down with the little car is an experience by itself. The water was pleasantly hot (based on previous reviews I was afraid i would be cold but it was just perfect). I even saw 2 monkeys crossing the bridge nearby. The views while soaking are from paradise.

Very special onsen! For 1900¥, you can use the indoor bath (showers + 1 pool) and the outdoor bath (no showers, 1 pool). The outdoor bath is reached via cable car (included in ticket) from the hotel. Going down the valley is an experience in itself, so definitely recommend!

Absolutely beautiful experience soaking up the hot water and nature! The 250m cable car ride was fun and unexpected, to access the open air bath. Cost about 700yen. Well worth it!

Best onsen I had in Japan so far, it's a great experience that I have to take the cable car down to where the open space onsen is.
