Iwao Hot springs ATTAMĀRU

Mid-October 2025 ＿📜 Takeura Umeshiro's Mashike Diary 📜＿ A hot spring capped off a 300-kilometer one-day trip ♨ When I came to Mashike for work in the spring, I saw this place perched atop a cliff along the coastline and had been wanting to visit it for a while. I was lucky enough to finally get to visit! Yes, I did! ＿♨ Iwao Onsen Attama-ru ♨＿ This is a day-trip hot spring facility, and next door is the "Yuhi-so" hot spring facility, which also offers lodging and exudes a truly wonderful aura! Well, it's warm, but the water here is a slightly tinted, almost colorless cold mineral spring.♨ The bathing fee is 500 yen per adult. There is a resting room, coin-operated lockers for valuables, and the indoor bath has one main bath and an open-air bath, but no sauna. Conditioner-in-shampoo and body soap are provided, and towels with the hot spring's name on them are sold at the front desk.♪ During certain times of the day, it's often fully booked.♪ The highlight of this spot is undoubtedly the open-air observation bath, offering a panoramic view of the Sea of Japan from a high vantage point! It's said to be a famous sunset spot, but Umeshiro and his wife visited two hours before sunset, with thick clouds on the horizon, so they probably wouldn't have been able to see the spectacular sunset even if they had tried... But if the weather and timing were right, it would have been the perfect location and setting.♪ A sentimental sunset right in front of you, so close you could almost touch it... Yes, Sentimentality is so close, it's only a few centimeters away, sir! My stiff muscles from driving were thoroughly relaxed! ♪ Back to Sapporo! Visited at the end of August 2025 When I went around 3 PM on a weekend, there were about 3-4 other customers. The changing room has 22 bath baskets and 100-yen coin-return lockers, and the washroom has a hairdryer, tissues, and plastic bags. There are 15 washing stations, and rinse-in shampoo and body soap are provided. The body soap has a strong scent. The showers do not have temperature control and run for a fixed time when you press a button; in the women's bath, it stops after about 5 seconds, making it difficult to wash. The men's bath was fine. The spring water temperature is 15.5℃ and is heated and filtered. The water is a clear brown color, and when I went, the indoor bath was better. The water was quite hot. The water was smooth and odorless, and it soaked into my body gently, keeping me warm for a long time. There was one indoor bath and one outdoor bath, but no sauna or cold plunge pool. There was no way to cool down after warming up, so I had to sit on a chair in the indoor bath and wait for my body temperature to drop while rinsing off with lukewarm water. The women's bath didn't have chairs in the outdoor area, but the men's bath did. Before the renovation, there were people who brought sake cups into the outdoor bath and were noisy, so it was quite an inconsiderate experience, but after the renovation, it was much calmer, and the building and changing rooms were spotlessly clean, making it a very pleasant experience.

🟥 ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND! We drove over 30 minutes specifically to visit this onsen, only to be completely disappointed and treated in an extremely rude and hostile manner. According to Google, the onsen is open until 9:00 PM, and we arrived at 8:10 PM — well within the posted hours. Out of nowhere, the owner ran outside, yelling at us, waving his hands aggressively, shouting "CLOSED! CLOSED!" over and over again. There was no explanation, no apology, just shouting and hostile behavior — as if we had done something wrong by simply trying to enter a business that was still supposed to be open. It was unprofessional, absurd, and incredibly disrespectful. The hours posted on Google are clearly false, and the attitude we were met with was completely unacceptable. We didn’t even get to use the onsen — just wasted time, wasted fuel, and left with a really bad impression. If you’re looking for a relaxing, respectful experience, avoid this place at all costs. You’ll only be met with anger and confusion.

I visited on a weekday afternoon in bad weather. This municipal? hot spring is located on a hill along the national highway, less than a two-hour leisurely drive from Sapporo. The price is reasonable at 500 yen for adults. The baths are simple, with one indoor bath and one open-air bath, and they are well-cleaned and clean. Due to the bad weather and it being a weekday, the baths were all reserved for us, but even if it was a little crowded, there were plenty of washing areas and the baths were quite spacious, so I think you could relax. The open-air bath smells more of the ocean than the hot spring, and although it's along the national highway, there's little traffic, so it's a great hot spring where you can soak while listening to the sound of the waves. There's also a large rest area, so you can relax after your bath.

I stopped by on my way back from Mashike. I've been there before, but I couldn't go because it was closed, so this was my first time. The bathing fee of 500 yen is great 🙏 Soaps and other amenities are provided, and there's an open-air bath, so depending on the time of day, you might be able to see the sunset or the sun set. It's inconvenient that there are no restaurants, but there are vending machines, so that's OK. Ice cream is also quite expensive at 180 yen, but that can't be helped.
