Kaimon hot spring

Wonderful local onsen! Entrance ¥350, shampoos provided, you need to bring your own towel. Operating hours weekdays 14:00-22:00, weekends & holidays 11:00-22:00, there is parking, Kyushu onsen stamp. Free lockers at the reception, you can't see your stuff while bathing. Six places to wash with plastic stool shower heads and mirror. The tub is medium to small size under a big window which allows a lot of natural light. The floor and the tub are made of small tiles and there is a small stone lantern at the corner. The water is kind of yellow brown and murky, not terribly hot, around 40°C, full of natrium so very salty and gives a nice feeling on your skin. The locals bathing are very friendly and talkative (if you speak Japanese). Definitely a nice visit for the local onsen experience. The high salt concentration makes it feel like a reclining bath 😊 Your body naturally floats 😅 I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful hot spring, and my body is happy. After my bath, I used the relaxation area for the first time. There, I found an old massage machine labeled "Fuji Automatic Massage Machine" ☝🏻 I wondered if it would work? This is a hot spring I've wanted to visit for a long time. It's located just off National Route 213. It opens a little late, at 2:00 PM. There is a parking lot, but it's full with space for two cars and two or three more next to it. There's an empty lot across the road, but parking is prohibited. It costs 350 yen to use. Amenities include shampoo, body soap, a hairdryer, and a fan. There are lockers, but no keys. There are three showers. The water was really good. It was quite cloudy, and you couldn't see your hand after about 15 centimeters. The bathtub is small and can only fit three or four people. The temperature is lukewarm, so you can soak for a long time. It tastes salty if you get it in your mouth. It was quite an impressive hot spring.

The source of Kaimon Onsen has a surprisingly high concentration of salt! I licked it a little, thinking, "Wow, this is really salty!" It was incredibly salty! It's no wonder it's a highly concentrated chloride spring! I could definitely feel the salt concentration, higher than seawater! The brown color of the bathtub and the film on its surface were testament to its quality, and even the floor was discolored. The water was about 40°C, so I could soak in it for a long, relaxing time, which was also appealing. The bath is large enough for about 4-5 people. Shampoo and body soap were provided, as well as a hair dryer. There was a tatami-mat rest area. There was parking for a few cars diagonally in front of the building.

It smells of the Showa era... it brings back memories. I'm sure there are still many hot springs like this all over Japan. It brings back memories for those of us who have become accustomed to super sento. I visited during the four-day holiday in November and was able to relax. The bathtub is like a larger version of a home bathtub. There are three washing areas, but hot water is available, and shampoo and soap are provided, so 350 yen is a reasonable price. There is parking in front of the store, so please make use of it as much as you can to help them stay open. It would be great to have a beer or takoyaki after your bath. (They only have cider, water, and tea.)
