Natural river bath with both milky and clear waters. We visited a couple of times and noted that the milky water with soft and fine mud (our favourite) has varying water temperatures and volumes. The clear pool water was warmer but there were plentiful of larvae (yaks!). Try out the milky waters at various times for best fit. Bring along a towel and yukata for dressing convenience. Enjoy!

Just above the parking there is one little pool with very hot water. The hot water comes out of the ground. There is a milky river flowing past the pool. It was a fun job for the kids to adjust the pool to perfect bathing temperature by redirecting a little stream. We all enjoyed the bath very much. There were only very few people.

Honestly, it was kind of nasty during this time of year. Lots of water bugs on top of the water and not easy to navigate around the trail. There was no one there when we stopped by. It wasn't that interesting to see and I believe there are better places to visit in and around this national park. I would just keep driving.

The “baths” are quite small. When we went the water was a bit too hot to go all the way in so we just splashed it on ourselves. It was nice but nothing special From what I know most onsen in Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures don’t allow tattoos so this is an option for tattooed people in this area

Of course free, unmanned onsens are great. But this onsen is great also because the water is really really good - though very hot! Also, the river next to the little onsen pool is an onsen river, so you can relax in the river to cool down. So good!!!!!!!!
