This place isn’t some polished, Instagram-trap spa…it’s the real deal. A neighborhood sento with serious local cred and just enough English signage to keep you from totally flailing. Here’s the drill: • Shoes off the second you walk in…there are lockers for those. • Ticket machine inside has an English option. Full service (entry + towel rental + toiletries) runs you just ¥1000. In a city where bottled water can cost that much, it’s an absolute bargain. • The baths are gender-segregated and completely nude. No swimsuits. No shame. • Shower first (they provide soap and shampoo), then hit the pools: • One is lava-hot and will challenge your pain tolerance. • One is full of massage jets that basically perform amateur chiropractic. • Two are outdoors, including a cold plunge that will make you believe in time travel. Locals were super friendly and helped guide the process without a hint of attitude. Staff was welcoming and made everything feel easy, even as a foreigner. You can be in and out in an hour, feeling like a new person. Or stay longer and come out soup. Verdict: If you want real Japan…not the glossy version, but the honest, human, hot-water-and-conversation kind…this is it. Five stars.

It seems like a small public bathhouse used by a mix of people — both tourists and local residents. Rather than going out of your way to visit, I think it’s a nice place to try if you happen to be nearby. The cold bath is very small — only big enough for one person at a time. Still, I was pleasantly surprised that there’s a small outdoor bathing area where you can get some fresh air. If you’re visiting as a tourist, I’d recommend carefully reading the posted guidelines before using the facilities. There are signs in several places asking guests to shower before entering the baths and to wash any sweat from the sauna before getting into the cold bath. I was honestly quite surprised to see some people entering without doing so.

One of the more famous sento in Tokyo. It should be a 5 star review, but I think they are suffering from their success somewhat. There are many baths, some hot, others hotter, and a warm outdoor bath along with two cold water baths. A lot of variety but that means it's perhaps even more crowded at peak hours, especially in the winter, to the point that you can have literally nowhere to go. I know, I'm part of the problem too at peak times. It has everything, soap and shampoo, hair dryers for free, and they even have two floors of changing rooms and lockers so they're doing well to provide everything possible at a very reasonable price. It's just there are simply too many people here at times.

Kotobuki Yu is a charming neighborhood sento that perfectly captures the warmth and nostalgia of old Japan. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by the gentle scent of hinoki wood, the soft hum of bathhouse chatter, and an atmosphere that feels both authentic and comforting. The bath area is clean and well-maintained, with a variety of tubs at different temperatures — ideal for relaxing muscles after a long day of exploring. The water feels silky and soothing, and the murals on the wall (often Mount Fuji or peaceful landscapes) add to the serene mood.

I will start with the most important info: it’s TATTOO FRIENDLY! The best sento I’ve been to in this area. The price is very reasonable for what it offers. They have free shampoo and body wash to use which is great and you can rent a towel set for an extra ¥100 which includes a scrub towel too! They have two indoor hot pools, one with many massages functions, and one stone hot pool outside. There’s also a cold pool and a sauna. The best sento experience ever, can’t wait to be back!!!
