Definitely a beautiful setting for an onsen with the outdoor pool overlooking the dam and surrounded by mountains. It was also very quiet when we visited, so we had the place basically to ourselves! There are hot indoor and outdoor pools as well as a sauna and small, cold pool. However there aren't any other variety of pools such as those with jets, electrical currents, etc. Towels can be purchased when paying for you entry, if needed and the cost of entry was about 600¥ at the time.
Had a wonderful time bathing and eating at this onsen. The ground/first floor is the onsen area and the second floor has a restaurant with traditional tatami seating. Highly recommend both the onsen and food!
I went to this onsen and my very expensive shoes were stolen( I have medical issues requiring good shoes) . My partner said that the janitor was rude and pushy too. First bad experience in Japan
Great onsen - the outdoor pool is pretty special with a great view across the dam toward the peaks. The restaurant wasn’t open though and looked like it could have been a permanent thing.
Amazing place, people add it to your bucket when visiting the village. The view is outstanding and just 10 minutes walk from the museum of Gokayama. You can do it within your day visit.

Make a day of it — a quick-dry towel, dry bag, and post-soak layers take almost no pack space.
