Little Edo Sawara boat tour

We took the Little Edo Sawara boat tour and it was such a great experience. We caught the last boat of the day around 4 PM, and even though we didn’t speak the language, the staff were very accommodating and tried their best to explain the historic sights and passages we were floating through. The atmosphere was peaceful, the views along the old canals were beautiful, and it felt like stepping back in time. What stood out was how family-friendly it was—our toddler loved it, and it was no problem with the stroller since you can leave it by the office and they’ll have it ready for you when you get back. The ride was smooth, safe, and very affordable, making it an easy must-do if you’re in Sawara. Pro tips: • Go for the late afternoon ride (around 4 PM) for calmer vibes and softer light for photos. • Affordable tickets—bring a little cash since some kiosks don’t take card. • Toddler/stroller-friendly → just leave your stroller at the office before boarding. • Don’t worry if you don’t speak Japanese, the boat guides are kind and will still make the experience fun and meaningful.

Runs periodically throughout the day. It's useful to check the schedule and arrive a few minutes early to make sure you can get a spot on the boat. They have a discount for some of the nearby parking as well. Overall the tour is nice and relaxing. You can see a nice view of the historic buildings and get some information about the area. For non-Japanese speaking people: the information was presented in Japanese only, so that might be tricky.

Very nice boat ride and tour along the river. Tour consisted of about 15 minutes up the river and back to the starting point. Sawara is a very historical town and the boat tour was a good way to see the older buildings and hear of the history. The tour guide was very sweet older lady who talked about how much she loved her job. It was worth the 1,300 Yen.

This place is also called "Little Edo of Hokuso". It has prospered as a water town since ancient times, and even today there are many townscapes that retain their vestiges, such as wooden and storehouse-style townhouses, earthen storehouses, and Western-style architecture.

Great tourist attraction. Boat ride is around 30 minutes long. Staff are knowledgeable about the local area. It’s possible to get a discount ticket from one of the local parking area nearly. Arrive early as this is a popular attraction.
