Matsubara onsen

I went at 5pm and it’s the golden hour for all grandmas in the neighbourhood to gather. It’s a v small onsen with one side filled with pure Onsen water undiluted and around 50 degrees and the other slightly diluted. To shower, use the onsen water and scoop to rinse and shower because the tap only has cold water. It’s so small it’s like a yuan yang hotpot. Soak first in the diluted part and once body is accustomed to the temperature move to the other side. Bring your own towels and shampoo etc or buy at a super reasonable price at counter. The lady at the counter is extremely kind. The place is not spotless because of its age but clean enough. Only thing is this is not a beginner onsen and you need to know what to do (Onsen etiquette) especially around the old ladies:) it’s amazing to find 源泉so near the station. After soaking go to Youme town for baskin robbins:)

I had been to Nagaishi Onsen just before visiting this hot spring. Since I still had some energy left, I decided to check out one more, so I searched and found this one. The admission fee was 200 yen. Wow! This hot spring is amazing! The water quality is said to be classified as a simple hot spring, but it leaves my skin feeling so moisturized that I wondered if it was really a simple hot spring. Also, while Beppu's public baths generally focus on hot springs, this one also offers lukewarm water, which is a must-have for lukewarm bath lovers. 🎶 What's more, while retaining its traditional charm, it's well-maintained overall, which I was really impressed by! I envy the locals (lol) Just a little more information: I Googled and took screenshots of the interior of the hot spring. I also received permission to photograph the hot spring ingredients list!

Wonderful local onsen, entrance ¥100. Very friendly staff. No lockers but you can see your things while taking a bath. Clean facilities, lots of space. The tub is medium size and divided into two parts, the one which the onsen water pumps directly into it is hotter. You need to bring your own towel and shampoos. Stamp at the counter where you pay.

A public bath with its own hot spring. There is a ticket counter and the bathing fee is 200 yen. The water is pleasantly warm. It is a colorless, transparent, simple hot spring. There is a hot bath and a relaxing bath.
