Misawa Kuko Onsen

This is a real good basic Onsen. Nothing super fancy. Just a good number of showers, good number of pools, and a decent, but small outdoor pool. There are five different pools. One that looks like you can lay down with in massage bubbles. One that is electrified (don't be alarmed, and the closer you go to the wall, the more intense the shock). A real hot bath (this was the largest). The smaller outdoor bath that was cooler than the large one, but not by much. And there was a cold bath for when you get out of the sauna. The relaxation area is basic. There is a tatami floor and some massage chairs. A seating area to wait for family still in the bath. And a smoking room. This Onsen was one of my favorites 15 years ago. We came up to Misawa this weekend for a function and were looking to go to an Onsen. Sadly our favorite has closed, but this was still going. I give it 4 stars because it looks exactly the way it did 15 years ago, which makes me think it looked like this at least 30 years ago. But I am not being snarky. I really like this place. I will go back at least one more time, maybe twice before we leave. It's just certainly dated. The cost has gone up to 400 yen. If I lived local I might be upset. But we live in Tokyo right now. The nearest Onsen to my house costs 880 yen, and that is after 9pm :( I've been to one not far from my house that cost 2,000, but that had mountainside views. IF you had time to go to only one? You won't be upset going here. If you were local. I think you'd go here often? I would.

This hot spring is located right in front of Misawa Airport. I went around 10am on a weekend and the men's bath was fairly busy with locals, but I still had a comfortable time. There are no towels to rent or shampoo provided, so you will need to bring your own or purchase them at reception. I only brought a bath towel with me, but I ended up purchasing a towel set that included an original patterned towel, shampoo, and body soap. There is a hair dryer in the changing room, but it costs 20 yen to use for a set period of time. It wasn't written how long you could use it for, so I wasn't sure, but for men, as long as you don't have long hair, I think it will dry for 20 yen. By the way, it seems that bringing hair dryers into the bath is prohibited.

During my trip, I stopped by Misawa Airport and saw a sign for "Misawa Airport Hot Springs"... It was right next to the airport. Adult admission is ¥420. Please bring your own shampoo and body soap. The changing room has lockers and baskets with locks. It felt like a public bath, with old-fashioned showers. The indoor baths included a jacuzzi, bubble bath, electric bath, reclining bath, sauna, and cold bath, as well as an open-air bath. It's covered, so it should be fine even in light rain. While I was in the bath, I suddenly heard a loud bang... It seemed like a plane was flying overhead. Unfortunately, I couldn't see it... There were two hair dryers for ¥20 and one for ¥30. It was a nice, relaxing hot spring.

I live this Osen.. I go at least once a week.. The bath is clean they have a dry sauna and a steam room. They have an outdoor hot pool..that is nice! There are other things to help relax I have not tried all the massage chairs.

First time going to Onsen. They have the electric bath. Highly recommend. I'm glad I had a friend who could walk me through the process. Water before bathing and then milk after, located in vending machines.
