Miya no Yu Hot Spring

#Suwadaira has an abundance of #hotsprings! I stopped by #Miyanoyu for the first time on my way back from a delivery. It seems to have been a #hotsprings inn in the past, but now it's open as a #daytrip natural hot spring. The sign, entrance, reception desk, changing room, and bath area... It's an indescribably good old-fashioned hot spring experience. 😊 The source is right next door, so the water is a little hot, about 45 degrees, which feels great. There are no showers or chairs, but you can enjoy a traditional and atmospheric hot spring. There's also a #coldspring at about 20 degrees, so finish your skin with a final shower. Business hours are 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Closed Wednesdays, but hours may change on holidays. I was attracted by the tagline "famous hot spring in the world," so I visited. The smaller cold bath is actually a hot spring, apparently from two springs. One is 44 degrees, and the other is 28 degrees, so I was told to try a different bath. The larger tub was quite hot, and it tingled at first, but I soon got used to it and it felt just right. As it's located right next to Suwa Shrine, the feeling of satisfaction after getting out was quite impressive. My smartphone navigation system pointed to sharp intersections and narrow roads that cars couldn't make the turn, but the road in front of the store is reasonably wide. The space in front of the store isn't very wide, but I think you can park three or four cars there.

Adults pay 500 yen, and once you've completed the check-in process, the bath is very hot, so it's recommended to fill a basin with cold spring water and let it run around your body while you soak to cool it down. The cold bath is also hot spring water, so alternating baths feels great. Afterwards, we visited Suwa Taisha Shrine. It was a truly valuable experience. Beginners won't know much, so the lady at the reception desk will explain everything in detail. *Please note that both men and women will be watched as they take off and put on their clothes, how they get in, etc. They will point out every detail, such as not drying themselves off properly with a towel.

The bathing fee is 400 yen (as of March 2023). There are no showers, shampoos, soaps, etc.; the washing area only has two types of water faucets (hot spring and cold spring) directly connected to the hot spring source. There are two baths: a piping hot tub and a single-person bath at about 20 degrees Celsius. Alternating between them warmed me to the core, even in the middle of winter. I always stop by when I'm in the Suwa area. It's a wonderful hot spring with a hot spring bathhouse-like atmosphere, where you'll be greeted and interact with locals.

According to the lady at the front desk, alternating between hot 60°C water and cold water is just right.♨ Everything was Showa-era retro. I'm so grateful for the amazing water! Shampoo, conditioner, etc. aren't available for sale, but they do have bar soap. I think you can borrow some if you ask the lady at the front desk. Honestly, I didn't feel the facilities or services were all that great, but this is a great public bath to enjoy some real hot water!
