Momiji no Yu

I've included this in my series on day trip hot springs. I've included it as a reference for day trip hot springs in Tochigi Prefecture. This Momiji no Yu is located just past the Rainbow Bridge, and the bath is small and fits about 10 people, so it's nice to relax and enjoy the camellia river. In autumn, it's a great place to enjoy the colorful maple leaves while soaking in the hot water.
I looked it up on Google Maps, but I didn't do enough research. 💦 ⚠️⚠️⚠️This is for guests only! ⚠️⚠️⚠️ Everyone please be careful! lol ★★Additional Note★★ As of August 2025, day-use bathing is now available on weekdays, but you must make a reservation in advance. lol ⚠️⚠️Day-use bathing is still not permitted. ⚠️⚠️ Please continue to be careful.(´∀`*)ヶラヶラ
The water is wonderful. I've visited many hot springs, but this is my favorite. It's a shame that it's not open in the morning. Update: As of March 2025, it's open from 6 AM to 9 AM. Evening hours were from 4 PM to 11 PM. A few years ago, I went to a hot spring said to have the darkest water in Japan, but the water here is even darker.
As of December 2024, based on what I can see on the website, day-use bathing here is available by reservation only (2,500 yen) on select weekday evenings after 4:00 p.m.
Pitch black water! It was my first time experiencing a bath that was this black. It became so smooth. As of July 2023, morning baths will also be available.

Make a day of it — a quick-dry towel, dry bag, and post-soak layers take almost no pack space.
