Muroran Onsen Yulara

Muroran Onsen "Yurara" (Thu, 23 Oct 2025, 5:00 PM). Located near a roadside station, this hot spring overlooks Funka Bay, offering spectacular sunset and night views of the Shiratori Bridge and windmills, especially from the open-air bath. On a clear day, you can see Mount Usu, Mount Ezikoma, and even Mount Yotei in the distance. From the hilltop behind, you can also get a good view of Mount Showa-Shinzan. This was my second visit, the first being October 17, 2023. The facility opened in 2005, marking its 20th anniversary this year. While there haven't been any major renovations, it's still a beautiful and clean facility. Open 11am-10pm (last order 9:20pm), adult admission is 680 yen (cash payment). Shoe lockers and changing lockers cost 100 yen, and valuables lockers are free. Body soap, rinse-in shampoo, and hair dryers are provided (the soap is original, there are three Tescom Nobby hair dryers, an A&D scale, and a Yuasa electric fan). The indoor bath area has 5x6 + 4 mixer taps with showers, a high-temperature bath (42-43°C), a medium-temperature bath (39-41°C), a vibrating bath (38°C), a jet bath (38°C (for 3 people)), a cold bath (20°C), a dry sauna (3-stage far-infrared sauna for 10-14 people, with a TV and a 5-minute hourglass), an outdoor open-air bath (40-42°C), a wooden deck open-air bathing area, and an indoor rest area with about 6 chairs for resting. The hot springs are supplied from three mixed springs. According to a 2024 analysis, the supply is 35 liters, the temperature is 27.3°C, the pH is 8.8, the dissolved salts are 11.03g, and the metaboric acid content is 7.7mg. The water quality is a hypertonic, alkaline, low-temperature sodium-calcium chloride-sulfate spring, formerly known as a gypsum-containing salt spring. It is not fossil seawater, but a marine hot spring derived from seawater. The water is colorless, transparent, with a slight salty taste and no odor. It feels thick and squishy on the skin, dries quickly, and leaves a moist and smooth feeling without stickiness, making it a "hot spring for beautiful skin and heat." The building has spacious rest areas and dining areas on the first and second floors, and all menu items are quite reasonable, costing less than 1,000 yen. Personally, I would recommend oden for this season, but this time I had it for a bedtime drink. Another great thing about this hot spring is that it is open from 11am to 10pm (last orders at 9pm) and is open to the fullest. I think it is a great hot spring for travelers.

This hot spring is located in a great area near the roadside station and Shiratori Ohashi Bridge. The indoor baths are spacious and clean, with medium-temperature baths, high-temperature baths, a jacuzzi, three jet baths, a cold shower, a shower, a shower, a sauna, and an open-air bath. It gets quite crowded on weekends, but weekdays are less crowded, so you can relax and unwind. Shampoo and body wash are available at the wash area. There's also a rest area and snack area where you can relax. While it's a snack area, they offer a wide variety of menu items, including set meals, and the food is served quickly. I've tried the mackerel set meal and the tuna tataki bowl, both of which were delicious and generous in portion size. The rest area has tatami mats, a TV, cushions, and chairs, so you can relax and unwind. The changing room has lockers with baskets and locks, and there's a notice warning visitors to beware of theft. Both the male and female receptionists are very helpful. There's also a game corner and massage chairs.

■Used while car camping at the neighboring roadside station I used this facility before going to bed on the night I was car camping at the roadside station next door. After taking night view photos from Cape Chikyu and various city observation points, I parked my car at the roadside station and walked to the bath. The water was soft, but it had a slight chlorine smell, making it feel less like a hot spring. I went in after 7 PM, and there were about 10 people bathing. There was a spacious open-air bath, including a wooden area where you could lie down and sleep, and when I stood up from the bath, I could see the Hakucho Bridge. I warmed up slowly, and felt refreshed after getting clean from head to toe! After my bath, I had a "post-bath drink set" at the restaurant! I gulped down a cold beer and felt great before heading back to the car. Needless to say, I slept soundly in the car. (^▽^)♪

10/12/2025 - While I was in Muroran, I used the private bath. It was a bargain at 1,200 yen. I purchased a ticket from a vending machine and checked in. The large parking lot had a rest area, vending machines, massage machines, and everything you'd want after a bath. It had the atmosphere of a hot spring beloved by locals, and even though it was a weekday afternoon, there seemed to be a steady stream of users. The private bath was equipped with a hair dryer and shampoo and conditioner. As long as you bring a towel and a change of clothes, you'll be fine. Unfortunately, the water was fresh water and not hot spring water, but the temperature was just right. There wasn't even a single hair on the ground, so it must have been well-cleaned. I enjoyed my time there.

I stayed at a hotel in the city and asked the staff for recommendations for day-trip hot springs, and they told me about this place. It was just dusk, so I was able to watch the beautiful sunset from the open-air bath. The facility is a little old, but the view and the great value and generous portion of pork cutlet curry made up for it. I'd love to visit again if I have the chance.
