Myōgi Fureai Plaza / Myōgi Onsen Hot Spring ‘Momiji no Yu’

It's been several decades since I last visited. The cold bath is ice cold. The water is covered in scale. According to the hot spring analysis sheet, the source's output is less than 10 liters per minute... Because it's a carbonated spring, lots of bubbles form on your skin, especially in the open-air bath. But there's so much scale I have to flick it off with my hands while bathing, and I don't want to immerse myself up to my neck. It doesn't overflow, so scale accumulates even on weekdays. The sauna is frequented by indigenous people, who leave the door open when it's too hot, turning it into a place for chatting without regard for COVID-19. It seems there are more people from central Annaka than Matsuidamoto. It's actually located in Tomioka City, though. The open-air bath has a great view, which is why it's highly rated, but the way the water is used and the locals' territorial mentality slightly bring it down. Stunning views from the open-air baths are quite common in Nagano, but they're extremely rare in Gunma, so I recommend it. The cold bath is also ice cold. Only Tomioka residents can purchase an annual pass with no time limit for approximately 44,000 yen. A friendly fawn appeared in the parking lot. The next time I visited, the men's and women's baths had switched roles. Do you find the view from the open-air baths less appealing? The water in the open-air bath with a cold bath and sauna near the washing area was not dirty. With such a big difference between the two baths, it seems like it might be a hardware/system issue.

This hot spring is located at the foot of Mt. Myogi. The water is a cold chloride mineral spring that is diluted and heated, so it doesn't really feel like a hot spring. You can see Mt. Myogi from the open-air bath, and the night view of Annaka and Takasaki can be seen from the lounge. The food was of high quality and I was very satisfied. I visited on a Sunday evening in November. There were many hikers climbing Mt. Myogi, so it started to quiet down after 4 p.m., so I recommend going after the evening.

The bath facilities were simple, consisting of an indoor bath and an outdoor bath, but the outdoor bath had a great view, and the water temperature wasn't too hot, which was very nice. There weren't many people, so I was able to relax. There was a place to put my own shampoo and other toiletries in the washing area. There was a maple tree by the outdoor bath, and since I went during the autumn foliage season, it was beautifully colored.

Great value cheap onsen. Tattoo friendly and had everything you need. It is a little small which was fine on the day i went but might be crowded on a busy day 👍

Super friendly staff, tasty food, and an amazing view from the outdoor bath. The baths may be a bit smaller so on busy days it can get crowded.
