Namiki Onsen Yunosato

This public bath is located just outside of Koriyama. It's a bit understated to be called a super public bath, and it's not a traditional public bath with a bathroom beyond the glass of the changing room, but calling it a public bath is probably more accurate. The sign calls it a hot spring, but it doesn't feel like a hot spring at all. Admission is 660 yen per adult, and tickets are purchased from a ticket machine. Payment is cash only. Soaps are provided in the bathroom, and towels are sold for 250 yen, so you can wash off the sweat even if you show up empty-handed. You hand over your shoe locker key to the front desk and receive a locker key in return. The changing room has a simple locker. There's an indoor bath and sauna. It's small, giving it the feel of a local community hangout. The faucet in the washing area initially dispenses cold water, so be careful! 😂 There's also a coin laundry (open from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM), which is convenient for travelers. There are spacious parking lots in front of and to the side of the facility, but the road outside is a bit narrow.

This public bathhouse costs 650 yen for adults. It's equipped with a jacuzzi, medicinal bath, sauna, cold bath, and even a bedrock bath. The three-tiered sauna is spacious and large enough to fit 40 people. The thermometer read 90°C, but it felt about 5°C warmer. In the center of the bathroom is a round cold bath (supplied with tap water via a hose and felt like 20°C). It's not too cold, so you could stay in it forever. The jacuzzi is a little hotter than the medicinal bath, around 41-42°C. There are many different types, so I enjoyed trying all of them. The bedrock bath has three beds, and I didn't have much time, so I just tried them out, but I almost fell asleep. The medicinal baths seem to change daily. You can enjoy a long soak at a comfortable 40°C. I didn't eat there, but there's also a restaurant on site, with a wide variety of options and reasonable prices. It's truly an oasis in the city.

I thought it was a wonderful facility. Every corner of the facility was thoroughly cleaned, making it a pleasant experience. It was clear that the changing rooms were frequently disinfected and cleaned. Mats were freely available, so I was very grateful to be able to use them in both the sauna and the changing rooms. The staff were very kind and I thought it was a facility that paid close attention to detail. Apparently the main hall is currently closed as a COVID-19 precaution. The prices were reasonable, the service was good, and the parking lot was spacious, so I had nothing to complain about. I just noticed one thing: some people brought their shampoo in baskets or bags. There's a small shelf at the back of the bathroom, and they placed it in the shower area before bathing. Maybe the shelf's location is hard to see, and it felt like they were reserving the spot, which was disappointing.

The large bath was the perfect temperature, making it easy to soak in. It was a hot spring where you could soak for a long time. The sauna was small, with room for about four people each in the upper and lower bays. There wasn't much space to get ready. It's located in the heart of Koriyama, and there's a coin laundry nearby, so I thought it was very convenient. It was a simple, old-fashioned bathing facility, but the bathing fee was cheap and the water was nice.

A 10-day campervan trip around Tohoku, including Tokyo Disneyland and sightseeing in Tokyo. It was the evening of the seventh day of Golden Week. We went to a public bath in downtown Koriyama City. It was a beautiful hot spring. There was no open-air bath. There was also a coin laundry and a massage corner. It was also nice that they had manga books. However, I thought that 660 yen for adults would be okay if it was in the 500 yen range, and 330 yen for children 3 years old and older was a bit expensive.
