Nikkozan Onsen

Great experience of having an onsen inside a temple. At the entrance, there is a bell/phone for you to press if you wish to enter. Seconds later, a lady came and greeted me warmly. even though she doesn't speak much English, there are instructions in simple English written on cards to tell you what to do. The onsen itself is a very small and basic one, with just body soap, no shampoo or conditioner. Some mentioned that the onsen was hot but I think the temperature was just right, this again is very subjective. If you are planning a trip here, prepare a towel so you don't have to pay for it. After bathing, there are some crackers and tea that you can help yourself with at the tatami resting area. For just 500 yen, this was an authentic onsen experience which left a deep impression on me.

Japan ichi ban Onsen@Temple. One of the best experience when we came to Nikko Chuzenji, Nikko Yomoto. It was the most enjoyable onsen after more than 20 years travel in Japan. Offer ¥500/ person, with green tea and tatami room to rest after bath. As this temple , bath house is small for both men and women side. Hinoki bath tub, sulfur content water, just body soap , no shampoo or conditioner bc this is a temple 🥹. Well maintained by temple Lady. Welcome and very nice to take us in . One of the best and will keep this in our hearts. Pls keep up and let many people can try this place as long as possible .

Refreshing experience after 10 km trekking from Ryuzu Waterfall. Entrance fee is 500 💴 for adults and 300 💴 for children. Towel rental costs 300 💴 We were not sure about the procedure so we rung for assistance (bell is at the entrance). There are just two small onsens: one for women and one for men, so it can get crowded at times. The water is sulfuric so my advice is not to touch your eyes with your wet hands. I did 🥺. After soaking in hot water, one may relax at tatami mat area, enjoying hot green tea and crackers.

We had the most wonderful experience here. It's simple but perfect. Because it's tucked away you get a genuine unspoilt experience. Upon visiting the temple afterwards we both appreciated the peace and beauty of our surroundings. I will never forget this moment. Way better than the crowded shrines that give no comfort when busy.

Hot spring temple! Beautiful, backwater, rustic location surrounded by steaming springs. No towels, so bring your own or purchase an inexpensive tenugui. The place is popular for its white mineral water and simplicity. No outdoor baths, just beautiful indoor tubs and a traditional cool-off space.
