There was a small swamp on top of the mountain. When winter came, with heavy snowfall and freezing, the mountain became isolated. Electric meter readings had to be postponed until spring. The swamp never froze over, and carp swam in it. A couple in their 70s lived a quiet life there. On the opposite bank lived a family of bears. When the couple started out in the morning, the bears would stay still. After a break, they would return home. Now it was the bears' time. They would enter the swamp and catch fish. They kept a good distance from each other, and this continued until spring. When spring came, the bears disappeared into the mountains. A tale from the old Showa era. A couple who had just come down from the mountain told this story. Abounding with food and nature, they lived a prosperous life. Even now, in the autumn, upstream of the Tokoro River, it is said that after a bear has devoured salmon eggs, birds, perhaps foxes, can be seen gathering, a glimpse of nature. I want them to coexist.

The whole town is deserted, and I wonder if it's just the way things are with the times. Small hot spring towns and depopulated areas all over the country are becoming deserted.

The alkaline spring has a pH of 8.8. It's good for your skin. A wonderful hot spring.
