Resort Oarai Matusmoto

It feels like a cross between a hotel and a ryokan. The building is three stories tall and has no elevator. That was the only drawback. [Meals] We were very satisfied with the dinner. They even served fried monkfish, so I was very satisfied. We stayed for two nights to go swimming, and the dinner and breakfast were different each day, which was great. I also appreciated the staff's consideration and the way they spoke to children. [Bathrooms] It was small, but the baths were limited to small groups. The men's bath was limited to five people. There were two women's baths, one for two people and one for three people. My daughter and I had the two-person bath all to ourselves. The bath itself was small, but it seemed to have been recently renovated and was very clean. [Rooms] It was clear that they had put a lot of effort into keeping it clean. [Other] When we returned from swimming in the sea, we found two outdoor showers (private rooms) that were great because they had hot water and weren't too cramped even when we were in the private rooms with our children. There were shoe lockers at the entrance to the inn, and they were separate for each room, so there was no risk of mistaking someone else's slippers for yours. The hotel had a homey feel. The beach was also close by, so we were very satisfied. We'll definitely stay here again when we visit Oarai again.
Saturday, June 22, 2024 My mother and I stayed here for a long-awaited trip together. First, we were greeted warmly by the staff from the parking lot. ♪ It felt like a small, cozy hotel, and I felt like it would be a very relaxing place. Once inside, the staff were smiling and welcoming. After receiving our instructions, we were given a room on the third floor. The ocean was obscured by trees, but the view was great and the room was very clean. There was no bath, but the restroom was incredibly clean. The baths, while small, depended on the number of people that day, but there were two small women's baths and one men's, each accommodating up to three people. We felt like we had the place to ourselves, and it was wonderful. ♪ I'd read the reviews and was looking forward to dinner. There was a huge variety of dishes, and each one was carefully prepared and delicious. ♪ We didn't want to waste anything, so we ate everything and snacked on it. We were so full! ♪ The homemade plum soy sauce that came with the sashimi was especially special. It was delicious ♪ At night, I took a walk to the sea and slept well. Breakfast was light, but they served a pot of miso, and everything was delicious. Next time, I'd like to splurge a little and order the Hitachi beef and monkfish hotpot course. Thank you so much ♪
The food was elaborate, with many dishes, and delicious. The portions are quite large, so it's best to eat lightly for lunch. It's right in front of Sun Beach, so it's convenient if there are events at Sun Beach. The room is a Japanese-style room with no steps, so we could stay comfortably even with a baby. The old-fashioned inn feel, where they laid out the futons while we were eating dinner, was very heartwarming. It's a three-story building, but there are only stairs, so those with mobility issues should be careful. The dining hall staff and the young man at the reception were very cheerful and friendly, and provided excellent service. The elderly couple who seem to be the owners were a bit curt? Some people might find that off-putting… When we arrived in a small car, we were told to move to the furthest, hard-to-park spot because a large vehicle was coming. We thought a truck was coming, so we obediently moved to the back, but when we looked at it at night, there were only regular cars, and the parking lot was only about half full, with our car all alone at the back… Hmm? The view of the pine forest along Sun Beach from my room on the third floor was quite nice.
Monkfish hotpot, monkfish liver, fried monkfish... Simmered fish, steak, sashimi!? This inn offers a wide variety of Ibaraki cuisine. Not only do they offer a full range of monkfish-related dishes, a winter staple, but they also offer a few extras, which is great. The eastern Ibaraki coastal area stretching from Ajigaura to Hitachinaka to Oarai is famous for its seafood dishes, high-quality hot springs, and other excellent ingredients, but they lack the facilities to take advantage of these. While there are several accommodations that boast monkfish hotpot, many lack hot springs. In contrast, Resort Oarai Matsumoto offers a perfect balance between cuisine and hot springs. The building itself appears to have been originally a health resort. The dining area is simple, but the quality of the interior is excellent. If you're looking to escape Tokyo and enjoy delicious food and a hot spring, this is the place to stay, offering a high standard.
The building may be old, but it was clean. The tatami mats seemed to have been recently replaced, and the rush grass smelled lovely. The bath felt small, but the water was at a good temperature and left my skin feeling smooth. Meals were eaten in the dining room. The meat on the children's menu was too big, so it would have been better if they had cut it up for me. The sashimi, Hitachi beef, and fried monkfish were delicious. However, I was disappointed that there was no dried fish, seaweed, or fried eggs for breakfast. The miso soup was only prepared on a portable stove at each table, and I couldn't get refills, which was a bit of a letdown. It was quite inferior to dinner. I would say I was satisfied overall, but I couldn't help feeling that one staff member's behavior, which was not what you would expect from a service-oriented person, was ruining the efforts of the other staff members.
