It's not particularly impressive in terms of scale, but the sight of the hot spring gushing out right in front of you is impressive. The heat, the smell, the sound, it's a place where you can really feel that you're in a volcano. However, the route starting from Chausu-dake and going around it was quite difficult.

The source of Mitogoya Onsen is located beside the hiking trail that connects Mitogoya Onsen to Inkyogura. The source spewing steam right beside the road is quite dynamic, but the toxic gases are dangerous, and as mentioned above, the area is used for business purposes, so it's probably best not to linger.

As we started to descend from Inkyogura, we could see steam rising. As we got closer, the smell of sulfur became stronger and the rocks and soil became discolored. A sign read, "Open-air bath source for tobacco shop use only."

It's incredibly hot and steamy. Hot water is bubbling and boiling. You can feel the life force of the earth, its strength. If you touch it, you will get burned and your skin will break out. You should never touch it.

Fumarole. This is the source of Mitogoya Onsen's fumarolic water injection facility, which produces hot springs similar to those at Owakudani in Hakone. Revisited: May 22, 2023
