Sanba Gorge

Peaceful area along the wooded Toki River, popular for hiking, paddling & barbecues.
Sanba Gorge in Saitama is a hidden gem known for its stunning natural beauty. Located within the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park, this gorge is a serene escape, offering breathtaking views of lush forests, cascading waterfalls, and crystal-clear streams. It's a popular spot for hiking, allowing visitors to explore scenic trails that meander through the gorge. In autumn, the area becomes especially picturesque as the leaves turn vibrant shades of red and orange. Whether you're seeking adventure or tranquility, Sanba Gorge provides a perfect blend of both, making it a must-visit destination in Saitama.
Maybe well-known for some (inferred from a large parking lot), but sill a hidden gem in Tokugawa-machi. I visited this beautiful canyon in an unexpectedly hot weekday to cool off. There were a handful of people bathing in the river but practically vacant, and I enjoyed every single privilege of chilling out in the nature. There is an allegedly famous カキ氷 shop next to this spot, which I’d say is also nice ( bit expensive tho).
Do yourself a favour and visit this spot any time other than August when it isn't crowded. Also, the locals really resent how busy it gets around summertime and are absolute parking nazis. Which is a shame because there's an amazing hiking route at the base of the forest on the other side of the road.
