Satorikan

Four friends and I stayed here for two nights. As others have said, it was well worth the price and we were very satisfied. It's not easily accessible from Tokyo, there aren't many people, it's deserted and somewhat abandoned, and there aren't many tourist attractions, but other than that we were very satisfied. The room was very clean and well-maintained. The only thing that bothered me was the windows; they wanted a good view of the river, but they were noticeably dull and dirty. The large public bath was a bit rough due to the hot spring ingredients. The faucets and other fixtures were pitch black and the facilities were noticeably aging, but I think the open-air bath was directly fed from the source without any added water. For hot spring lovers, it's a must-have. They also generously provide free snacks during happy hour, including the famous individually wrapped dried plums, calpas, and other snacks. It's also nice that they replenish them promptly when they run out. We thoroughly enjoyed happy hour during our stay. And then dinner. It wasn't haute cuisine by any means, but for this price they even included a half-buffet, so my friend, who is a big eater, was satisfied. The white rice was, of course, delicious and came highly praised. The inn staff were all kind, friendly, and all very nice. There were so many good things about it that I can't list them all, but it's an inn I'd like to use again. This is one hot spring inn I'd like to promote.

The hotel isn't luxurious, but many locals frequent it, and I didn't hear anyone speaking Cantonese or Mandarin. First and foremost, the hot spring ♨️ The water smelled like rotten eggs, and the metal showed signs of severe oxidation—it's a genuine sulfur spring. The rooms were a bit old, even with some stains, but acceptable. Breakfast and dinner were buffet style. The selection wasn't huge, but thankfully they had my favorite grilled scallops. The staff, both men and women, were very polite. I noticed the lobby was nicely decorated, so I've included a photo. "Practical and unpretentious" would be my assessment of the hotel. Because of the inconvenient transportation, I opted for Sakihana Onsen instead of Tsukioka Onsen, and I feel my onsen trip was worthwhile.

We stayed here over New Year's Eve and New Year's. To be honest, it was disappointing. Not only was the room cleaned, but a mouse showed up in our room in the middle of the night and woke my whole family up while we were resting. They removed the mouse, but there was no apology either when they did so or when we checked out. My family and I had been looking forward to our stay, but being woken up in the middle of the night left us exhausted. I had thought I would stop writing reviews even if the inn was that unsanitary, but when I looked closely at the bill, I saw that I had been charged more per person than usual. (The New Year's rate was over 40,000 yen.) To be honest, I think this is disgusting. I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

Satori-kan is the BEST! Very nice rooms and baths with river views. Beautiful lounge with free soft drinks and high quality teas and coffee all day, and free beer during happy hour from 4 to 6. Great food. Manga library. Many other amenities. The town of Sakihana is a very tranquil riverside location an hour or so from Niigata city. Not a typical tourist location - but if you are looking for a quiet place in the country, Satori-kan offers the best value for money I’ve ever seen in an onsen hotel. Very friendly and charming staff. I would love to spend a week there!

A very traditional ryokan, pretty old and quite run down. Believe it must have suffered during covid19. Altho old, the warm and helpful staffs made up for it. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and the onsen experience. It was an experience hard to come by. The spring water is rich and our skin felt so good after a good soak. Our stay included dinner and breakfast. Meals were good. Lastly, the ryokan surprised us by picking us up from the train station after we updated them of our train schedule. Their humbleness and warmth were felt throughout our stay.
