The hotel's attached day-trip onsen (hot spring) is a bit pricey at 1500 yen, but the overall environment, facilities, and service are quite good, so I didn't find it problematic. You can buy tickets at the hotel reception. After purchasing, you'll be given a password, which you then use to enter the public bath. It's a separate nude bath for men and women, with indoor and outdoor pools and a small sauna. The outdoor pool offers a view of Lake Chuzenji, which is quite scenic. Note that it's only open from 13:00 to 15:00. The rest of the time seems to be reserved for hotel guests. During peak hours, they may limit soaking to one hour, but one hour is more than enough. Next to the hotel reception, at the bottom of the stairs, there are lockers for valuables (free of charge), but they are small, only big enough for phones and wallets. Even small handbags won't fit; you might have to take them to the changing area in the bath. After soaking, relaxing in the historic lobby is also quite pleasant.

It's located at the Chuzenji Kanaya Hotel, on the Oku-Nikko side of Lake Chuzenji. I visited for a day trip. While the waters of Chuzenji Onsen on the shores of Lake Chuzenji are clear and colorless, the water here is milky and cloudy, as it draws its water from Yumoto Onsen in Oku-Nikko. The spring quality is listed as sulfur-containing, calcium and sodium sulfate, and bicarbonate. I expected it to be highly acidic, but the pH is 6.41, making it surprisingly neutral. There is an indoor bath and an open-air bath; the indoor bath is slightly hot, while the open-air bath has just the right temperature. Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are provided at the washing area in the indoor bath.

Price: Day-trip hot springs are cash only! 1300 yen per adult, includes rental towels (large and small). Bath: The water isn't very thick, but it's a pleasant hot spring with a nice sulfurous scent! There was also a sauna about the size of two tatami mats. The open-air bath with a view of the tranquil Lake Chuzenji was fantastic! Amenities: Standard amenities such as cotton swabs, combs, and lotion were provided for both men and women. Valuables: There are free, fairly small lockers with a combination lock in the lobby. It's a hotel with a wonderful atmosphere, and I'd love to stay there someday. (March 2023)

Visited during Golden Week 2023. Day-use hot spring access is only available from 13:00 to 15:00. 1500 yen per person. Towels and bath towels included. Payment is made at the front desk, you receive towels and a door number for the hot spring, then you walk past the guest rooms on the first floor to the annex bath. It was practically empty around 1 PM, but then it started to get crowded. It was clean, with six washing areas, a sauna, and an open-air bath. The sulfurous hot spring was very pleasant. The politeness of the reception staff was, needless to say, wonderful.

Great sulphur onsen. Sulphur water comes from Okunikko Yumoto, 12 km away. The outdoor onsen is warm, indoor is hot. There is also a sauna. Though the overall facility is quite small, outdoor onsen is quite spacious, plenty of rocks to sit on. There are around 8+ showers. The facility is clean and modern. Comes with shampoo, conditioner, and body soap - all smell good. Paid 1500 per person for day facility use, comes with towel set. There is no cheaper option to get no towel. Nice onsen!
