Takanokono Hot Spring

We went to Takanoko no Yu in Matsuyama City. It's located next to the Takanoko Hotel. When you enter the building, there's a spacious lobby. You purchase your bath ticket at the ticket machine. There's a large public bath with a jacuzzi. A deep walking bath (I recommend this one). A thick, reclining bath. Afterwards, there's an electric bath⚡️ and a mist sauna. The magnum jets were fun. The electric bath seems like it could really loosen your shoulders if you put in the effort. The open-air bath was spacious and relaxing. They also have a reclining bath. The dry sauna is large enough to fit about 20 people at a time. It was a surprise when it got to its hottest temperature. The building is clean, with a rest area where you can lie down, and a restaurant. We're a couple from Kagawa Prefecture who love super hot springs (we've been to half of Shikoku's super hot springs), and we envy the people of Ehime Prefecture. The level of the facilities is completely different.

I found it on Google Maps and went straight there (^o^)v I went there after 8pm on a weekday, but there was a hotel and a coin laundry on the same premises, and there was also a restaurant inside the hot spring facility 💃 There were a decent variety of baths, and although it was hard to see the starry sky from the open-air bath, there were bamboo plants planted there with wind chimes hanging there, which combined with the lighting created a very charming atmosphere v(´∀｀*v) After taking a bath in the Peace Open-Air Bath, my skin felt so smooth 😊 The changing room also had a nice wooden feel 😀 There was also a walking bath, which was nice. The shower was a little weak, but I would like to come back again 🏃➡️

I went for the first time on January 31, 2026. There are two free-flowing hot spring baths, one inside and one outside. The temperatures are around 30°C and 47°C. There are also walking baths, mist baths, and baths for lying down. The sauna is spacious, and there was an event going on, so it was quite hot. The top level was quite tough! There were also plenty of chairs to rest in! The lobby is spacious and has a body care area and a dining area. The dining area will be undergoing renovations for a while from February. There were a lot of people there even in the afternoon, and it got quite crowded towards the evening. That's how popular the facility seems to be.

No Tattoos. Otherwise I would give five stars. Water is wonderful, plenty of pools as others have noted. Denki buro is a nicely designed one with arm rests to lower yourself down. Too painful for my liking. Otherwise, this is one of my favourite onsen on Shikoku, way more enjoyable than paying timed entry fee at Dogo Onsen, especially as staying at hotel next door gave me access to onsen. Was very busy on a Sunday evening. Highly recommend staying at Takanoko Hotel while on pilgrimage and enjoying this onsen. Can end here after a pleasant day walking from T46 with T49 nearly across street. Next day a pleasant stroll to T51.

The hot spring water is free-flowing and alkaline, making it a beauty bath. The thick water feels very comfortable. There is a sauna, exercise bath, flat bath, and open-air bath (you can't see the sky), so it's a great place to relax. You can buy tickets from the vending machine to enter. There is a senior discount (over 65 years old) for 750 yen. It opens at 5am. The parking lot is flat and very spacious.
