Tateshinatokyu Spa Resort Shikayama Hot Spring

I used the hot spring for a day trip. Day trips start at 12:00, so you can't use it before then. The sauna also starts at 14:00, so if you're just looking to enjoy the sauna, it's best to go after that. There are no TVs in the sauna room. Even though it was a long weekend, there weren't many people and it was comfortable. As you'd expect from a resort hotel's hot spring, it was clean and I was able to relax. Soaking in the hot spring while looking out at the Tateshina trees was exceptional. There was also a shop next door where you could buy local souvenirs, so you could also do some shopping.
I visited for a day trip after hiking. (After descending Mt. Tateshina) The man at the reception desk confidently assured me, "Our hot springs are excellent." When I actually took a dip, the water was soft and refreshing, instantly relieving my fatigue. I visited on a weekday, and the clientele was mostly older people returning from golf, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The facility was clean, and the amenities, including massage chairs, were very comfortable. This is a hot spring I'd like to visit again after hiking or a drive.
The weakly alkaline simple spring has a slightly slimy feel. While the heatwaves down below are around 35°C, here on the plateau it's around 22-23°C, which is enough to soothe a hot body in the open-air bath. The waterfall bath is also very pleasant. The amount of bubbles in the Jacuzzi bath is powerful, giving it a massage-like feel. Therefore, be careful not to bathe for too long. The shower pressure is strong and the shower head is an ultra-bubble type. The amenities are also good.
We stayed in different room types for two days. The first day was a duplex, like a villa, with one bedroom, one Japanese-style room, and two extra beds (mounted on the wall that can be folded down), a seven-person room! 👍 The second day was a regular room, which also had a Japanese-style room, a bedroom, and a bar, which was great. We could soak in the hot spring almost all day. Laundry had to be done before 10 PM. The massage chairs were average.
On the way back, a deer crossed the street in front of me. 🦌 The bath was small, but it had an open-air bath and a sauna, so it was great. ♨️ There were plenty of showers, a full set of shampoos and other amenities, and the shower head was the trendy Refa model. ✨ There was even a Coleman Infinity Chair by the open-air bath, which was a nice touch. 🙏 Due to the nature of the spring water, the floor can be slippery, so be careful not to fall. ⚠️

Make a day of it — a quick-dry towel, dry bag, and post-soak layers take almost no pack space.
