Teiemu Bokujou onsen

The 43°C hot spring water, which naturally gushes from 1300 meters underground along with hot spring gases, is first stored nearby to release the gases, and then cooled to about 39°C before being poured into the bath. A small amount of floating material is visible on the surface of the water, which is thought to be components derived from the hot spring. The bathwater is completely replaced daily. It is rich in sodium and calcium, and apparently the pipes become clogged within a year. They maintain the bath by smashing up this hard scale, and the fragments are proudly displayed here and there. This hard scale creates a unique, almost carved-out bathtub. The building, which has been rebuilt about three times, is truly worthy of being called a hot spring hut, possessing a deep, rich character. Cardboard was attached to the ceiling; apparently, a regular customer, unable to bear the sauna-like heat in the summer, put it up for shade. Soaking in the bath, the view of the sandy beach, Kagoshima Bay, and Mount Kaimon beyond from the window creates an indescribable atmosphere. After soaking for about 15 minutes, a gentle sweat begins to pour down. The cold bath, which uses groundwater, is not too cold and refreshes your body after the heat. When visiting, allow plenty of time and soak for at least an hour. If you're lucky, you might even see dolphins playing up close. I want to visit again.

First visit during the Obon holiday of 2025 Finally, I finally made it to Teiem Onsen! It was a 1,300-kilometer drive from home on back roads, and I spent two and a half days sleeping in the car. Google Navigation is really appreciated, because it almost feels like you're going to pass this place by (seriously). It's pretty scary driving toward the ocean in a place where you're like, "Is this really the right place?" Really? It's probably best not to come here on the trendy Zankure Alpha or Bell. Seriously. The hot spring smells like sulfur, so I think it's Natcal. There was something floating in the water that looked like petroleum oil, so I think that's what it is, but if it's human...hmm... Still, it seems like customers are constantly coming in from inside and outside the prefecture. I'm lucky if I can understand half of what the guy who seemed to be a local is saying, and it would be weird if he started talking to me. But there was a cold bath, which was nice.

A superb seaside hot spring in Tarumizu City Located at the southern tip of Tarumizu City, just before entering Kanoya City You have to descend from the road, so you won't find it unless you carefully look for the signs There are ruins along the road, and you descend from the plaza in front of them Along the coast, you'll see an area that feels like a mix of tropical and pastoral, with palm trees, green grass, white wooden fences, and beautifully blooming flowers Entering the seaside hut, you'll find a bathtub covered in thick, bright yellowish-brown mineral deposits The water is also cloudy yellowish-brown, slightly lukewarm, and very pleasant Behind it is a hot spring source gushing from 1300m underground, and the mineral deposits here are also thick and viscous The water flows down a wooden trough into the bathhouse The mineral deposits have rounded the square pillars and rough stones It was a superb hot spring with an amazing atmosphere

I highly recommend this place to anyone who likes deep hot springs. I've passed by it a few times, but it's the kind of spot you might pass by on a normal drive. The parking lot looks to fit about 10-15 cars. You pay 500 yen for adults and 250 yen for children at the reception, receive a key for a locker, and then change in the changing room. The washing area is just the right size for about five people, and the bathtub is not particularly large, but it's big enough for about five people. You'll need to bring your own shampoo, soap, and towel. Wash before getting in the bath. The bathtub itself is covered in a fluffy, brown substance made from the hot water, which is probably calcium-like, and it has a mysterious feel to it. The breeze after my bath was pleasant, and I enjoyed spending time relaxing while looking out at the ocean. It was great to discover this quaint hot spring in such an unexpected place.

The closest bath to the sea. Just 30 meters from the water's edge. Time flies just listening to the sound of the waves and feeling the sea breeze on a summer day. I'm so grateful to the owner for creating this location. It would be great if the windows could be opened, but they're a bit of a bug repellent. The water is incredibly moist, with a lot of precipitated components. The handmade bathhouse also adds to the beach house vibe. It would be amazing if the sauna was operational.
