Tenryo-no-yu @ Takayama 🇯🇵 – Peaceful Night Onsen & 60-Min Massage Retreat ♨️🌙💆♀️ 📍 Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, Japan We visited Tenryo-no-yu on Tuesday, 15 April at 8:00 PM—an ideal way to unwind after a full day of exploring. Although we didn’t stay at the attached hotel, the public onsen is open to non-staying guests and offers a fantastic experience on its own. Entry is quick and easy via the self-service kiosk near the entrance (note: last admission is at 21:00). We brought along disposable towels, which made things more convenient. After a deeply relaxing soak in the beautiful, clean, and peaceful onsen, we enjoyed a 60-minute massage session that was both soothing and professionally done—perfect for relieving travel fatigue. The whole setup is well-maintained and welcoming, ideal for both locals and travelers. 🧭 Tip: Evening visits are quieter. Don’t worry if you’re not a hotel guest—the public access to the onsen and massage services is well worth the trip. ⭐ Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing evening in Takayama.

The facilities were very well maintained and modern. hours actually went way later than expected so was able to go for a longer evening session after the 40 minute massage. Only downside was no cold bath, only a ladle and cold water well, but there are 2 different onsen baths both inside and outside that were very pleasant. Sauna was extremely hot. 1500 yen for entry, 500 for towel. bit on the higher side, but I think worth it for what you get from the experience. Massage was great, 4400 for 40 minutes and the masseuse was very kind and professional! not the best i’ve ever received but she was very attentive and skillful and that made it a great experience. they don’t use oil there but it wasn’t a problem for me.

Our first onsen experience was incredible! I went with my 9-year-old daughter, and my partner was with our 4 year-old boy. I was a bit apprehensive at first because the idea of being naked in a public space was not comfortable at all. I thought it would be awkward. To the contrary, it felt very natural and I was thankful that I had no swimming suit on. They give you little towels, which some people used to cover up, but I felt that was unnecessary. It was raining and I found a spot in the outdoor pool that was not under the roof, and it felt wonderful. We even had massages after we were done with the onsen. The ladies were absolute so wonderfully skilful and very kind.

It doesn't look exactly like the photos but it was good. Jacuzzi bath with rubber buoy pillow was my favorite. The outdoors bath has the perfect temperature, I could sleep in it (I never do). The water is mineral, not just heated tap water. Out of the earth, the water is 38.5°C but they have baths that heat it to 40 and 42°C

Awesome experience for my first Japanese onsen bath! Amenities were clean, and environment was pleasant. Went on a Wednesday afternoon hence there wasnt much crowd! The outdoor bath was spacious and comfortable. Didn’t see any sauna available - I could have missed it. Overall a great experience! 👍🏻 …
